Ferrari Auction Rescheduled
An unprecedented sale of historic Ferraris and Maseratis that was to take place on May 23 at the Ferrari facility in Maranello, Italy, has been rescheduled for June 28.
The event was postponed for several reasons, according to Sotheby's representative Simon Warren, who says that the June date is a better fit for both the auction house's calendar and the car world at large. It will also allow owners more time to transport their vehicles to Italy and grant Ferrari engineers additional time to vet all of the cars. Sotheby's expects to release more detailed information about the event, including new dates for the public viewing in Italy, by mid-April.
Among the cars destined for the auction block are an F2004 that Michael Schumacher drove during the 2004 Formula One racing season, which carries a presale estimate of $2 million, and a 1958 Ferrari 412 S piloted by Phil Hill that could sell for more than $10 million. As many as 30 cars could be included in this auction, the first such sale to be supported by Ferrari.
