Volkswagen Racing Cup - Brands Hatch - 6th August 2017

I was stood at Druids for this race yesterday and only saw a small part of what looked like a very bad accident involving three cars. One or possibly two drivers were taken away in ambulances but there were no announcements at the circuit for the rest of the day. Has anyone heard anything about the condition of the drivers? My brother and I have been thinking about it ever since.

The driver is OK and has posted the following on Facebook.
"Massive accident at Brands Hatch today. Bruised, battered and a broken finger. Many thanks to the doctors and Marshals track side and the German doctor at the hospital who turned out to be a big motorsport fan. The JWB team have been fantastic and I have been overwhelmed with the messages of support from fellow competitors and friends."
Not bad considering the size of the shunt.

Wow. Yes. We saw the nose of the car fly up in the air from where we were but the slope meant that was all we saw. This is the second biggie I've witnessed at Brands in the last couple of weeks. The other being at the Superprix when a chap's throttle stuck in his Chevron and planted it in the barrier at the top paddock.Same then with no further news and you do spend the day wondering if the worse has happened.
Glad on both counts, this was not the case.
Just confirming what's been said really but I was in contact with Paul (the airborne one) that evening and he was feeling battered but was OK. The safety structure of the car held up 100%, seat mounts didn't move etc and I think he's feeling pretty grateful to have got away with it so lightly.
It looks like Phil House was at least partly blamed by the organisers but it was pretty clear that he didn't give the car in front a tap until it started to slide and lose speed; at that point it seems to me a small touch was a much better option than swerving to avoid and risk firing his own car off.
What happened after that was not predictable in any way and I don't see any blame on PH for that, I think it's fair to say that Paul also feels the same.

Hello - I am the lucky/unlucky driver of the no 17 Scirocco!
As Steve said earlier the car did its job and saved my life but unfortunately it was destroyed in the process!
The doctors and marshals who attended the scene were fantastic.
The inboard footage is quite dramatic and a lot shorter than what I remember! I feel incredibly lucky to have escaped with just a broken rib, upper body bruising and a broken finger.
