Not ANOTHER eBay question?!?

No expert here, but if I see a high starting price, I tend to think 'You're an optimist' and move on. The items that end up with high bids seem to start low and get a few people fighting over them. High starting prices, and big reserves discourage that.
If it's something big and expensive (your car?) then say it's advertised elsewhere and you reserve the right to end the auction early. That said - most of the good bidding happens in the last hours/minutes/seconds.
