The Definitive Guide to 996 series 911 is now up on Amazon (in Kindle format) here for anyone looking to buy one of these great value 911's, but the reason for the post is we are looking to add a new section on owner's cars...... (it's easy to modify and upload new content, which is then an added bonus to those who already have the guide).

It's basically a set list of questions about you and your car, plus the requirement for a photo. There are only so many pages we can add (download size is already 28Mb!) but as this guide was orginally born via Pistonheads & PCGB, we wanted to hopefully nab a few owners from Pistonheads. If you fancy getting involved pop me mail via my profile and I'll send back the questions for your perusal.

All the Best smile
Grant

NOTE: EDITED TO SAY WE HAVE NOW ADDED THE FIRST BATCH OF NEW OWNERS (see post below) and an additional 8-pages to the guide, but we will still be adding more at a later date if you wish to share your ownership experiences.

If you have already purchased the guide you should be able to get this and some future updates free by downloading an update via your Amazon Kindle account smile

Is the book available in hardback? Would make a nice addition to coffee table

Hi Johnny, thanks for the post, in honesty there doesn't now seem to be sufficient demand for a printed version on the 996 series, and with everyone having an iPad (or similar) it's so easy and convenient to download and have it instantly! In this case the guide has been laid out like a conventional book for viewing each page in full, with lots of images, rather than one of those early Kindle books that are all huge text and few images etc. smile

I'm pleased to say the Definitive 996 guide has just been updated to include an extra 8 pages covering 4 Pistonhead 996 owner's cars. smile

Thanks go to Paul (5STM5), Steve (Sundayjumper) and Dan (Dano S4, who went above and beyond the call of duty with a very detailed piece) and Andy, 996 secretary for PCGB. Cheers to you all for taking the time and trouble to share your experiences and thoughts with fellow enthusiasts. thumbup

This adds to the large amount of detailed information already packed into the guide and we aim to further develop this section, so for those that haven't had a chance to reply yet ( or any Turbo/GT3 owners) please feel free to send in your pieces (or request the question template) via my pm, for future use. read

For anyone that has already purchased the guide you should be able to simply download the updated 143 page Kindle book straight away (it is a print style version so looks like a book with tons of quality images). It is currently on special offer. here

One other BIG bit of news, the 208 page Definitive guide to 997 series 911 is also now live on Amazon Kindle here covering all 997 (gen-1 & gen-2) models in great detail. The file sizes are rather large but this is because of the vast number of images and decent resolution for best zoom viewing.

Thanks again smile

Is there any reason why this doesn't work on the Kindle App for iPad? I just get a message saying it is not compatible, but I'd love to buy it.

Maybe it's just me...

Hi Jefferson - It should be compatible with all the devices below and is ideal for iPad viewing, sounds like a glitch of some sort, I'll mention it to Amazon and see if they can check the download link. I'll report back asap.......................... smile

Meantime you can send a free sample of the "Look Inside" part to your own Kindle app (if you are logged into your Amazon account) to see how it looks. I have just tried this with the 997 guide and it worked perfectly, but the 996 one didn't, so I have contacted Amazon... try sending the sample to your own device (both 996 & 997 guide) and let me know if it works ok.
The 996 guide is here
Compatible with -

Sorted now thanks Grant. Turns out you can't buy books through the Kindle or Amazon apps and have to go through the web version. Live and learn.

Hi All, apologies for bumping this post, but I wanted to let those that have already kindly purchased the guide (thanks ) know how you can automatically receive any updates for your 996 book.smile

We have made a number of useful additions since launch (including the owner's section) and this should allow you get the latest copy without thinking about it.
Amazon tell us this is the best way to receive any/all updates for the guide completely free and automatically. ....This should work on Kindle Devices and Kindle apps on iPad/PC/Mac. Let me know how you get on (A way to check this is we now have 144 pages).

Turn Automatic Book Updates On or Off
You can choose whether or not to receive updates automatically for your Kindle books. With this setting enabled, books on your devices will receive the latest version with corrections and improvements when it becomes available from the publisher or author.

In order to preserve your reading progress, bookmarks, notes, highlights and annotations across different versions of books, make sure that all of your Kindle devices and reading apps have Annotations Backup or Whispersync for Books turned on. For more information, go to Back Up Your Bookmarks, Notes & Highlights Back Up Your Bookmarks, Notes & Highlights .
Note: Annotations Backup is enabled automatically and can't be turned off on Fire tablets.

To enable or disable Automatic Book Updates
Log into your Amazon account, under "Account" in the top bar select-
Go to Manage Your Content and Devices Manage Your Content and Devices .
Select the Settings tab (high up on the main screen, then scroll down to find the below -).
Under Automatic Book Update, select On or Off. Note: If you select Off, you will no longer receive book updates automatically. In some cases when an author or publisher requests it, you may receive an email notification when an update is available to download.

UPDATE - If you haven't received your update yet (we are in the hands of Amazon as to how often they send out updates) you "should" be able to manually update like this -

LET'S TRY THIS -
1/ Log into your Amazon account on the main Amazon website

2/ Under "Your Account" (top right) from the drop down box select -
"Manage Content and Devices"

3/ This should have a list of all your Kindle Titles - with the following headings
Select - Actions - Title - Author - Date - Collections

4/ To the right of Collections, any books that have updates available should have a click bar to the right saying"Update Available"... providing this is working correctly you should be able to manually select any update by clicking this button ... fingers crossed...
Please let me know via PM or post..

EDITED TO ADD - if you haven't got the guide yet you can download the FREE look inside sample to your Kindle app/device to see how it looks, use zoom on images, etc. Log into your Amazon account then navigate to the guide - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Definitive-Guide-Porsche-... LOOK INSIDE and then click send free sample to my kindle..... give it a try.
