PAT Testing courses

Has anyone here done a PAT testing course? My boss has asked me to look into it so that we can do our own PAT testing of our equipment rather than getting an external company in to do it every time.

Any recommendations?

You can do them online. You watch a DVD, fill in an online multiple choice "exam" that any dullard can answer. Then print off your certificate.

Did one a couple of weeks ago. DVD an hour or so and then 15 questions if you can manage more than 12 correct you get the certificate straight away.

Cheers, seems simple enough.

Any recommendations for testing IT equipment? I have seen several testers and they all seem to do the same thing by en large.

We have some longish extension leads as well. Would something like this be suitable? http://www.firststopsafety.co.uk/products/PDK?gcli...

Or would it be best to go for something like a Martindale Handypat 600?

Would this course be suitable? Free course but £20 for the cert

I do all the PA Testing in house for our company as the more unfortunate part of my job . Feel free to PM me if you want further information. We went the same route as you a few years back as to do bits in house every week or so was way cheaper and less disruptive than getting a contractor in every x years.

As per previous comments, the only requirement is to be classed as a 'competent person', and be able to switch your brain completely off whilst doing the repetitive boring task...

If you want the proper qualification, then it's a day in a classroom followed by a multiple choice online C&G exam with an open book.

I've done this, it's City & Guilds 2377.

Are you employed by government?

If its just a standard office wouldn't bother with PAT testing, companies only do it to cover their back .

I just manually check things and keep a record every year, you can notice anything that shouldn't be used through easy enough

PAT testing is an overkill most of the time
