Did anyone watch this on the news? Absolutely excellent.

Talking about Blur being trustworthy:

"Can all the MPs who put Tony Blurs face on their election literature please put their hands up?"

And if you look in the background - half the Tories raise their hand

Aye, the video is on the bbc website

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/vote_2005/frontpage/4414751.stm

Very good, although really, harping on about figures and such is meaningless.

A good bit of TV comedy/theatre, its waht we expect from comedians. We all deserve better from the lot of them.

I don't know how old you are Tinman (and this is not a pop at you in anyway) but some of us older PHers remember what an arrogant, horrible, nasty, slimmy scumball Howard was as Home Sec. I find him offensive and no way believable when he tries to come accross as an alternative to Bliar. I only wish there was a more convicing opposition.

IMHO

Michael Howard was the greatest Home secretary we have had for a long time-a man who stood up to the perceived 'wisdom' and simply said prison works and expanded the prison population by 50%.

Good to see the Conservatives attacking for once, and taking the p1ss at the same time. If that's what it takes, so be it My fear is that it's too little too late.

I will admit that Michael Howard is extremly poor at presenting a likeable image of himself-but do you prefer the false sincerity of Blair?.

JL-

No I don't. But we shouldn't forget what Mr H is like and this video is a timely reminder of how these arses are all the same.

To be honest with you I don't think Mr H is that bad as a person and he is also an effective adminstrator-but if the art of politics is getting the public to like you-he is one cr*p politician.

Deep down I am a bit of a liberal ( small "L" ) but I must admit that Blair makes me want to throw things.. I truly , truly do not trust the man and believe nothing he says.

So that leaves Howard...

The Tory cabinet seems pretty lightweight. But then they do not have Prescott or Brown - which is also a good thing. So on balance the man Howard gets the nod...

But the impression I have of him is that Paxo interview. Why couldn't he give a straight answer. This is the abiding image of the tories in the late 90s for me.

This is the problem with trial by TV. The smoothest most polished act wins, regardless of what they *actually say*. Before TV was invented - well, before the 1960s, people managed to vote without being influenced by whether the prospect had a green tie, or spots, etc etc.
