Being rude at work
Discussion
To start with I thought it was just one of those things, then I thought it was me, or that I expected too much then I thought people were just getting ruder:
On a daily basis I email people I know with requests for information, or to supply information they have requested. Sometimes I am attaching important files or reports which I have spent a considerable amount of my time and their money on producing. This week I did a training course and all the delegates wanted a copy of key documents which they said would make theior lives easier. I got my PA to email it to them that evening. Not one single acknowlegememnt of receipt. I know I can ask for a 'read receipt', but I find that a bit rude in itself and when I have done this some people obviously turn it off.
The only people who seem to acknowledge leters ae solictors, probably because they can charge £12 for the letter.
In these days of internet based communication doesn't anybody acknowledge their grateful receipt these days?
If they dont reply and I have to gently chase there is never an apology that they have inconvenienced me by having to call 4 times, or that they haven't replied to the original message.
What is wrong with people at work that they don't even have the common courtesy when you have taken time to write to them or call them that they canm ignore it until it suits them. I know they are nice people. Am I expecting too much or are they just leagues ahead of me in good time management?

How many people thank you for holding a door open for them these days?
Oooohh pet hate No.312
Quite. If this happens to me I tend to shout out "Thats OK!"
The tend to get a "Don't mention it!" from me...
Back on topic - if someone mails me something that I know they've had to put effort into (even if it's their job) I tend to send a simple "Thanks!". If it's something trivial I generalld don't bother...
The sort of e-mails you sound like you're talking about Shirepro are "FYI" type ones. I.e. this is the presentation we did this morning, here's the ppt.
I would never dreaming of saying thanks for that...not least as it probably got sent to 50 people!? However, for big stuff and specific e-mails to me, I always do tend to literally just reply...thanks...send. Quick as that!!

I find a really overly sincere 'You're more than welcome' to go down like a cup of cold sick...
I always acknowledge receipt of emails from people when it is related to work as a matter of course. If they are simply confirming a question I have asked, such as, "Yes. 10am is fine," I do not respond with a thanks because I do not imagine they want to be inundated with unnecessary emails.
I do my best to respond to all personal emails too. If I have put a lot of thought and time into a personal email and I get no response, I get pretty pissed off. I got so pissed off with a friend last year that I typed a very rude and blunt email to them. They have not spoken to me since. Oops!
I do a very good line in nasty when I'm pissed off. Unfortunately, tongue in cheek doesn't translate too well in email.

ah I see I must be among the rude people mentioned in this thread because when I hold a door open for people (which is frequently) and they aren't polite I usually cough TOSSER in my juvenile manner
I like to respond to email sent to a large distribution list by replying to all and adding 'Me too!'.
I will send a 'thanks' reply if sensible - but on principle I block read receipts - if I want someone to know I've read something, I'll reply, otherwise not - how else can you cover your arse by saying you didn't see it?
