Dont-ya just love kids
Isla bikes are lightweight get good reviews, and have a resale value aparently.. frog Bikes get a good mention too

I bought my boy a very nice second hand earlyrider belter 16. What a fantastic bit of kit. Absolutely lovely bike that's incredibly lightweight. Hes progressed so quickly and smoothly on it and I'm sure it's to do with the weight. I get a few sarky comments off other parents about it, but the fact is, although they are expensive they hold their value. I bought it second hand for £210 with a warranty and a free service after six months. I know I will get £150-£200 for it when he's grown out of it. All other kids bikes that were in the shop felt like they would be scrap after theyve finished with it. And when the kids inevitable turn to their feet and your left carrying back to the car the comments stop. It's also zero maintenance with the belt drive and cartridge bearings. Just the brakes will need adjusting at some point.
I bought a Islabike Beinn 24 for my daughter. They are expensive but well made and the total cost of ownership should be low.
it's our 3rd Islabike, My daughter came from a Beinn 20 (which her sister has).
Her sister had a Cnoc 16 which was bought for £199 in 2015 and sold for £210 a few weeks ago (the Cnoc RRP has risen to £289).
Therefore IMO the extra upfront outlay is worth it later.
I did look at the Frog 62 bike but it felt more stretched (longer) in the frame than the Beinn 24.
Happy with the Beinn 24.
I don't think you can go wrong with either (and I think boys being a bit stronger can use a heavier bike).
