Hi everyone.

First post - Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

I've decided to buy my first grownups watch and I'm struggling to get my mind settled on a particular model. I've mostly been looking at online vendors but would happily travel to pick it up and would be grateful for any recommendations.

My budget ideally is around £2.5-4.5k. I think my preferred model is the gold cased navitimer 01 (46mm) with the in house movement and see through back. However this seems to be out of my budget and I haven't found any second hand models yet.

So I've been looking at the World (blue dial version), which seems to be more inline with my wallet but I'm trying to understand why there is such a price difference and why the second hand value /depreciation seems to be different too. I understand the World doesn't have the new in-house movement - is that the only real difference (although it does have the extra complication with the gmt function which I think i'd find quite useful). If so how bothered should I be? I've read a little around the movements but I'm quite new to watches and don't really know how to make a value judgment on the Bretling 24 vs the B01. One comment thats stuck with me is: 'you buy a Navtimier for the dials not the movement so don't worry about it'... is that fair?

Thanks very much. Great forum.

Try chrono24, but read up on who they are and how they operate first (search this forum).

I have a black, arabic 22322 and a blue face World.
I read the in house movement is very good and i do find my 22 not the best at timekeeping. I dont wear the world enough to be able to judge.
The World is a very large watch and i think the normal sized one is as big as you can go and it still be a daily wear tool watch. It just Slips under the cuff of a Shirt.
What I will say is the navitimer is such a timeless design that People seem to Keep them a Long time. In fact I have just ponied up 614 euro to have mine serviced as it is a keeper.
When you factor in the purchase being a Long time Investment then the Price aspect must fall away and buying what you want becomes most important.

I was looking at Navitimers a short while ago, and was very undecided about which model to go for. To an extent I still am, although if the 1st watch on the link below came up today i'd buy it. I looked at three releases once i'd narrowed it down.

Limited edition, 2000 made, numbered and in house movement.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply's. Very good point about trying to view the purchase over a very long period of time.

Frank your post was really interesting. I know exactly what you mean about feeling you may end up with a compromise and is that worth it? Also you're focus on the movement. Thats my sticking point also. I can't really contextualise how important the in-house movement is or not.

Can anyone explain why the World is cheaper than the Navi 01 - and how their two different movements are generally regarded or if this is even an issue?

Cheers

Andrew
