K Series VVC Tuning
Discussion
Hi All,
I've gotten a bit too used to my K series performance now and I'm looking for the next steps to take.
Current spec is, 1.8 VVC 143bhp base engine, MEMS2 ecu, 52mm throttle body, poorly designed 4-2-1 manifold and a direct cold air feed.
Who is out there these days to do or advise on tuning work, I emailed Dave of DVA power but had no reply?
Do I:
A) Swap the exhast cam for a Piper 270H, get a new exhaust manifold made and just enjoy it? Cost circa £1000
B) Go all out, Jenvey's, Piper 285's, delete the VVC, new manifold and Emeral ECU? Cost circa £2500
C) Be different, Honda K20a engine, loom, K pro Ecu, Mcgregor bell housing, clutch, mounts and manifold? £3500

Rog built the original VHPD heads for the S1 Exiges when contracted to Janspeed.
I discovered he'd built the head for an endurance race engine I have which needed new guides so he replaced them with extra length Colsibro units and the engine is running very strongly..212bhp and over 200 Nm with more to come now I've fitted the right pump.
Good guy and always happy to tank and advise on the phone.

Get someone to relieve the cam follower buckets and fit some proper high lift cams (e.g. 1227/1444s), after deleting the VVC gubbins. A decent ECU will be able to be mapped such that historic issues with high lift & duration cams with a lot of overlap can be minimised.
The two Dave's are your men here (Andrews and Walker respectively) for both advice and work.

You can only get as far as 180 with the plenum and that would be after head work. The two Dave's are your men here (Andrews and Walker respectively) for both advice and work.
