issues with bypass pipe on 997.2 C2s
Discussion
About 2 months back I had a bypass pipe fitted to my manual 997.2 C2s. The pipe was supplied and fitted by Hayward & Scott. Now before I go any further I have to start by saying that they have been more than happy to take a look at the pipe and the only reason they have not looked at it yet is because I am over an hour away and have kids, life etc etc!
Have a few issues with the pipe, which I am not sure are to be expected.
Firstly at idle the car vibrates much more than before, it always did a little but now its more noticable. Ive been able to improve this a bit by loosening the bolts connecting the bypass pipe to the side cats and then tightening them back up again.
The second issue is that I get quite a bit of what I would call resonance or vibration inside the cabin between 3-4k rpm. You can feel it in the seat, steering wheel and your gut and its not exactly pleasant. Whats odd is that its more pronounced with the window open.
Making adjustments to the exhaust bolts and clamps is clearing making changes to all of this but I wondered what other people experiences are with these kind of pipes? Basically is some kind of additional vibration expected?
Anyone have any tips for how to adjust this properly?
As I said at the start, to be fair H&S are more than happy to look at it, but if I could get away with it was hoping to do it myself. Unless of course, they all do this and then I need to decide if I actually want it!!!!!! Which is a tough one as otherwise it sounds sooo much better!

So the vibration between 3-4k rpm isn't normal then.
Any tips for checking the install? The only bolts I have not been able to access are the third bolts on the cats, just cant access them with my tools. In fact I have no idea how they installed them without taking the bumper off!
No its definitely NOT normal for any vibrations at that RPM range.Any tips for checking the install? The only bolts I have not been able to access are the third bolts on the cats, just cant access them with my tools. In fact I have no idea how they installed them without taking the bumper off!
The upper bolts are tricky to access but can easily be checked with the right tools without removing the bumper. In fact, we never remove the bumper on the 997.2 to install the bypass (except the Turbo's which you have no choice when fitting the Sharkwerks)
So I took the car in and they couldnt see anything wrong. They also said they could not notice the vibration, which wasnt helpful as everyone else can feel it.
After adjusting the bolts etc adding a little bit of metal to push out one of the brackets(!?!) I took it out for a spin. Was a bit better, so I agreed to take it away.
Then on the run down to goodwood a few weeks back, my first real use of the car it was much worse. Lots of vibration around 3.5rpm, rear view mirror visibly vibrating and you can clearly feel it in seat and wheel.
So the day after I took out the metal they added and adjusted the clamps again. A little better again, but still rubbish.
Now ive spoken to them again and they have offered to try a new pipe and we will probably do that.
I was wondering if this could actually be something specific to my car. Perhaps an issue with car elsewhere that's more pronounced with the bypass in place? Before putting this on I had no issues at 3.5rpm but occasionaly would have a bit of a rough idle.
Car is a 997.2 c2s manual with almost 60k on. Due an oil change but had major service about 8 months back where nothing came up other than some slightly rusty brake lines at the back.
Any thoughts?

I suspect it's something specific to your car as I don't see any other posters mentioning this. I have Sharkwerks and don't notice anything like it.
There is a distinct edge to the exhaust note at about those revs. I hit it on the way to the multistorey at work most days. Do you have Gundo hack or non-PSE silencers?

I have 997 2 3.8S PDK 2009 fitted H and S pipes a few months ago and no problems at all I was surprised as the installation is quite ridged with the clamps directly onto the subframe. I do have the PSE and couldn't be happier with the end results. Just wish the stainless pipes didn't tarnish so quickly!
