Recently treated myself to my first 'proper' watch. I wanted an omega as my father has and grandfather had omega's so I've always wanted my own, however only now have i been and to afford one. I opted for the speedmaster pro 'moonwatch'. I've always liked it, I think it's got a cool history. I opted for the manual too as I thought I'd like to keep to the original spec as possible (even though i know the calibre has been revised since the famous moon landing). Anyway i love it, though i can't help but think i now want something else for a daily.

Just wear it as your daily and enjoy. Remember, that's why you bought it, right?

That's what I've been doing for a few months but I've noticed i keep catching it on a desk when using a laptop and it's picked up a few light scuffs. My thinking is still wear it but perhaps alternate with another.

It's built to take a knock against a desk, its been to the moon! I'd just wear it. OK, don't abuse it by wearing it for rock climbing and brick laying, but do use it.

Alternatively, have a look in the "£50watch" thread for inspiration. Why not at the price?

Oh yeah i get that, it's just with it being my first foray into the premium watch arena I'm trying to wear it as much as possible but also look after it a tad.

Funnily enough I've just discovered the £50 thread and started reading tonight so suspect I'll be posting in tha too no doubt sometime soon.

I also have my eye on another watch, a Hamilton that I'm going to see at weekend.

Scratches and dings on the case and bracelet are unavoidable I'm afraid. My Speedy pro has picked a few in 4 years. To me they are signs it has been used and enjoyed.

Not used it but I've heard Polywatch can be used to buff out scuffs in the hesalite crystal.

Enjoy your wonderful watch - and buy a G shock for car washing, gardening duties!

Yours made me think of my dad's Omega. He bought it in Mexico in 1968 when he was a sound engineer working on the TV coverage of the Olympics. Only have this photo from when he wanted it serviced and I needed to identify it to the watch repairer.

Quite similar, although his can't be called a moon watch I guess, so what IS it?...

Is this how the actual piece looks like? That would be the CK2915 which is quite sought after.

Yes, that's his watch. Why is it rare? Does it too have a "name"?...
Ah... The "Broad Arrow".

I reckoned it's worth about £1,500 but I can't recall how I arrived at that figure.

Err I would have said closer to £20k and a lot lot lot more for a one owner non restored watch, in the right auction.

I'm seeing him in the next week so I'll get some photos front & back. To be honest I didn't tie the leaflet up with his watch side by side, I just assumed it was the same one as it's old and in Spanish and it was to hand whereas his watch wasn't. The company which serviced it a few years back didn't comment on it being rare so either they assumed we knew, or he has a spurious leaflet and his watch is different?

I won't get his hopes up before I've studied the actual watch!

Perhaps he has Paul Newman's "other" watch in a drawer too?

Apologies to the OP for the hijack...

Spoke to my dad. Yes, his watch is the one on the brochure which, he says, came with the watch (?).

Seeing him tomorrow afternoon...

An excellent first foray into decent watches. AFAIC you could stick with this one for years and not need to add anything! Resist the urge to get another one right now- its the high of the purchase you would be chasing IMO, not the need for another watch per se.

I got a moonwatch myself last year, and it has been my daily wear since. The monochrome engineered depth and symbolic history gives it a uniquely satisfying edge.

Keep us posted. Might be a good idea to start your own thread.

You're probably very right actually.

I love it. I like the fact it isn't oversized or in your face like some watches can be. I little bit discreet but very classy. It also feels a nice weight when on the arm, some watches i find can be rather heavy and a hindrance somewhat.

...no new thread, unfortunately. My dad's 90 with early onset Alzheimers so no wonder he thought the brochure photo matched his watch. It doesn't. By coincidence, it's this...

So, as to value, could the OP or anyone else give an informed view?

Many thanks!
