Please forgive me for talking about petrol consumption on PH
What realistic MPG do you lot get from day to day? Can anyone give me an idea of just how thirsty a m5 is? Round town, motorway & of course when your out on a hoon
Also, can a TV be retrofitted to a car which never had one before?
Cheers

2001 E39, 21.7 mpg across all driving styles, can't be bothered to differentiate..... but I'd say about 85% of driving is motorway moving at a reasonable speed (about 3500 rpms in 6th).
I believe you can do a retrofit of the TV etc but it will be pricey, perhaps someone else with more knowledge can enlighten you.

2001 E39 run around Town/motorway, about 50:50, havn't reset my consumption for 1500 miles, currently at 23.7
Surely you are not trying hard enough?
That sounds very economical for a 5.0 litre lump.
Yep begining to think I ought to look for a recalibration of some sort?
As regards warranties, I've been looking for a replacement as the previous owner had allowed the BMW one to lapse, as yet I've found nothing.
Anyone know of a 3rd party one that is good.
I looked at four companies :
The AA no longer do warranties, the RAC won't touch the M5, Warranty Wise don't cover the Vanos and Warranty Works have a limit of £2500 per claim.
Anyone suggest any other companies ???

Have you tried Warranty Direct from Lloyds?
www.warrantydirect.co.uk
For example a warranty on a 2001 Z8 for a £5000 claim limit and repairs at a BMW dealer is £580 per year!

Many thanks but gave them a call, and they don't do the M5, (I'll start to get paranoid because as soon as you mention M5 you can hear the sharp intake of breath followed "I'll just have to check that one Sir") perhaps they are just too risky for these companies to make a profit on .....
Oh well what I save on the Warranty I can put towards potential future repairs !!!
Hi,
I get 16.5 MPG normally, but I do very little motorway driving. I can get it up to about 20-21 on a motorway trip, but I don't tend to spare the horses
Course you also have to budget for oil... I do a litre of 10w60 every 650-700 miles (and judging by the oil usage poll on m5board.com I am not the only one) and that can set you back another £11.50 every few tanks...
On the plus side though - it is a wicked car
Cheers
