2017 VW Scirocco R, any good?
Discussion
So I'm currently looking to lease a new car and having a terrible time deciding on what. However, I'm being offered a great deal on a VW Scirocco R, but can't find much out about the 2017 model online.
Is it any good? I'm kinda just imagining it's a slightly less powerful, nicer looking, FWD Golf R?
Cheers

Mate just got a brandnew one last month.
- Scirocco R = much prettier than the Golf in dark colours like purple or black, bigger exhaust pipes, meatier exhaust noise on startup, somewhat nicer interior than the Golf, about -20% cheaper than a Golf R on a lease.
- Golf R = more gadgets, much faster, better handling (Scirocco spins its front wheels quite a lot), arguably a more manly car if that kind of thing bothers you.

My old man had a couple of Sciroccos - nice car, unless you're a rear seat passenger.
He now has a Golf GTI PP, which we both agree is a better car in terms of driving and practicality.
Not sure which platform the Scirocco is based on?
Golf MK5 so pretty ancient really. He now has a Golf GTI PP, which we both agree is a better car in terms of driving and practicality.

Not that much of a bad thing. I had a 2009 1.4tsi which lunched its engine after 12000 miles, the wife currently has a 2.0tdi r line which was on a really good lease deal. Perfectly nice place to sit.

From a marketing and product planning angle I find it very odd that the Scirocco R is FWD.
Nobody gives a stuff, just look at the Audi TT. Vast majority of buyers of these cars don't care which wheels are driven or may even think FWD is better than RWD because of all that snow we've been having
so VAG continue to churn out cheaper and quicker to construct FWD cars enabling endless platform sharing opportunities.I've had mine for 10 days now and am very happy with it, nice exhaust note looks good in black metallic,it gots DSG on a 3+23 at 250 month.
I came from the Golf R so i was thinking i would be disappointed but tbh its pretty spot on, the interior still looks sharp and it handles well considering its fwd

Get the Scirocco R with DSG.
I had a 20ltr TSI scirocco for 4 years and enjoyed driving it.
At the start of 2017 i too was offered a great deal on a Scirocco R. For me it was a lot of car for the money, so jumped at the deal.
I have not been disappointed.
Mine is indium grey metallic [a great colour]with the DSG box and it is fantastic to drive.
Also gets lots of comments and admiring looks.
Just my opinion but a far better looking car than the golf, and who gives a s
t what "platform" it is built on!

If you want outright speed and practicality for rear passengers but want to blend in with 15million others - get the golf
If you want something a little different on the road, better looking (imho) and don't need the practicality of a hatch back, get the scirocco
The scirocco will be cheaper than the golf too and you'll only have for for 2 years, so can get the golf next!
Are you really going to be using the golf's power daily to warrant the extra cost?
In everyday driving you won't notice what platform it's based on. Only problem I have is that it sometimes spins the wheels in the wet
I have the 2.0 TSI with DSG on lease at £160/mth, couldn't find anything else comparable at that price.
Space is a bit tight in the back but can get 2 teenagers in. It's only 4 seats too, you don't have the option of a middle rear passenger like the golf. The boot is slightly smaller too and has a higher lip.
Scirocco has a turbo boost guage in a pod on the top of the cash and it's silly things like that, that make me smile when I drive it.
And the scirocco is less likely to be nicked! ??

Yes, they're good
I don't care about the fact it's based on the mk5 platform as it's hardly a bad platform to start with however I don't understand why they never updated it when they brought in the MQB.
The interior really is a nice place to be and it looks stunning from the outside (IMO) so gets a lot of looks from other motorists/pedestrians. It also sounds ratehr quite nice for a 4 pot imo, the exhaust sound is rather meaty for a modern turbo hatch.
I had an R26 Megane and a MK7 Fiesta ST before the R so it's a rather different drive compared to those which are 'true hot hatches' however the upside is a limousine like ride when the adaptive dampners are in comfort (Even with 19'' wheels)

does it have the soundaktor under the bonnet like the other performance VAG 4 pots (GTi, R, S3 etc.) or is it real sound?I came from the Golf R so i was thinking i would be disappointed but tbh its pretty spot on, the interior still looks sharp and it handles well considering its fwd
