Best investment potential for £8k
Discussion
What sort of USABLE cars currently have a good investment potential?
I'm not talking garage queens though, something that can be used at the weekend without worrying that every mile on the clock is a £10 loss...
I tend to keep my investment cars for 2-3 years and ahve usually done quite well, but the market is all over the place at the moment with some cars going completely insane over the last couple of years.

integra DC5...a low miler for £8-9k shouldn't lose value over the next 2/3 years...you may even sell it for what you paid, they seem to be appreciating steadily.
hmm, maybe break-even isn't exactly "investment potential" though is it!well i'm being cautiously realistic... 2/3 years is a pretty short timescale to keep a car and expect anything substantial in terms of an investment return these days.
in 5/6 years they'll be going up for sure, have you seen the prices of DC2s lately?

If you can find one, Audi S2.
I bought an S2 Nothelle N300 Avant in 2013 for £3500. I sold it a year later for the same price. I saw the car for sale a couple of months ago, they where asking £10,000 I think you will be lucky to find a car for £8k and make much money off it in 2 years. Maybe if you find a bargain, you may get lucky for a few hundred quid.

986 Boxster.
That's a good call. I can see these going up from what they are worth now. Especially once the numbers thin out a bit. You would still be lucky to make any money off one though. How about a Lotus Elan M100. £5-6k buys a decent one, although they all look like they need constant fettling but I can't imagine they would throw up any large bills.

Just sold a Cayman 987 because it was boring, definitely don't want a boxster, unlikely to appreciate anyway. How about a Lotus Elan M100. £5-6k buys a decent one, although they all look like they need constant fettling but I can't imagine they would throw up any large bills.
I've never liked M100 elans, unlikely i ever will (I have a "Proper" elan in the garage...)
8K isn't really enough to get a limited numbers piece of exoitica and is probably going to be scraping the barrel of some of the better sports cars out there so whatever you may gain in profit you are going to spend in maintenance so be no better off than a realiable car that will not lose value like the DC5/S2K etc.
I'd say to buy 2/3/4 good condition Mk1 MX-5s as you could probably and sell them all in a couple of years for an extra £1000+ each. It's hard to predict what will go up over the next couple of years but a well looked after MX-5 is always going to be a desirable car and I would expect that to be even more so when rust had gotten hold of the lower end of the market ones out there right now.
An R33 Skyline GTR could be a good choice too - with them approaching the 25 year import restriction in the US, they are about ready for a spike over the next couple of years..

I'd like to mention things like the Corrado VR6 ( and the Storm ), Mk1 MR2, Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo, and the already mentioned Elan M100, largely because they're cars I like and am interested in, but realistically, you'll be lucky to make much. Some Evos are going up now.
I already have a lovely F plate low mileage MR2, but the prices are all over the place. Same with the Corrado. I sold mine 15 years ago, and I reckon I could still pick one up in similar condition for a similar price, so maybe they're stable rather than rising. Although people are asking crazy money for some of them, they don't seem to sell. Elan M100s look like they're on the up, and I'm thinking about an S2, but the 986 is probably the best shout so far.
