Driving home in the pissing rain the other night, the back end of the Exige let go twice!

Once at half throttle (2nd gear) whilst turning left into a junction, very quick snap, only just caught it.

Secondly, again at moderate throttle (2nd gear left hand bend), but really progressively, easy to correct.

I think it was just the amount of water on the road, 'cos I've been out in the wet before and it grips very well normally, but I realised that I need some training, and I need to find the car's limits away from public roads.

So:
Does anyone know if there is anywhere in the North West that I can go to for driver/skidpan training?

I want to try skid correction/lifting-off where I won't hit anything, just so I know what to do? Anyone know of anywhere?

The same goes for me, so I'm also particularly interested in any suggestions. I know 1stLotus come highly recommended, but it's a hell of a distance from the NW to their circuits.

Any local suggestions greatly appreciated

Andy Walsh does driver training and is looking at venues up north might be worth giving him a call.

And you could get some tyres with some tread on them as well!

Any other suggestions than First Lotus?

For me, further driver training has taken on a new urgency after this happened last week, whilst driving my Father's Audi... erm... speedily on the M62

Also, I'm off for my first trackday driving my own car tomorrow at Anglesey.

Any other suggestions as to driving tutors in the North West appreciated. In fact, do Anglesey do anything like this?

Has that tyre been hideously curbed at some point or perhaps not inflated properly? Seems an odd way for it to fall apart.

The Audi was involved in rear-end shunt prior to Xmas, when a Transit crossed a hatched area into a filter lane at about 50mph, colliding with us (whilst stationary). I suspect the Audi's tyre was damaged in the collision but was not subsequently replaced. Either way, it was pretty annoying when it let go on me

Just goes to show - never trust repair shops

I completed my trackday without major problems, but I did manage to throw my Elise off the track a couple of times - once in the dry and a couple of times in the wet. I really need some car control tuition in catching, controlling and correcting slides.
