Afternoon chaps. I am a long time lurker however I have just signed up and I thought I would ask the lovely members of PH for some sound advice.

I am looking for a new car. Currently driving a 1.2 polo. Only owned that and a 1.2 corsa so I have not had anything fancy or amazing. Now I feel it's time to upgrade.

I was originally looking at land rover defenders however after test driving one compared to another car (we will get to that in a minute).... I did enjoy it but it was sluggish. After doing more research they are bulletproof, but can also be a pain to look after.

The next car that I test drove is was a GT86 (I know its a love hate relationship with the GT86 here). I must say I LOVED it. Every second was brilliant and it felt just right. Coming from a 1.2 it felt really fast as well. I am a big fan of the original AE86, however getting one of those is next to impossible. After lurking PH I have a little doubt in my mind about the GT86 now.

Hence why I am coming to you guys. I am looking for a fun quick car that is reliable and wont cost me an arm and a leg. Budget is about £14k tops. RWD or AWD is preffered. I aint really too fussed about space or seats, although if poss 4 seats would be preferred.

I have looked at:

2.5l vovlo c30 (my friend had a 2.0 turbo c30 and it felt awesome to ride in).
GT86
Maybe an old MR2
Lancer evo/Lancer
Impreza/WRX/WRX STI
John cooper works mini
S2000
MX5
skyline or supra (providing I can get one in good nick cheap)
Bimmer M3

Any other suggestions? I am a little lost and want help. My mind is currently 98% GT86 but you guys have put a little doubt in my mind. But it just seems insane value for the money with everything you get and the experience it gives you.

Mk1 MX5 + Jackson Racing supercharger + £10K to spend on fuel and track days

200bhp on a one tonne car with RWD and near perfect 50:50 weight distribution

You cannot get more smiles per miles smile

Remember - you do not lose the back end with a RWD - you send it out to play

Isn't that exactly the same car bar the suspension?
