Having a chat with a pal in the pub last night who has an interesting dilemma! He was about to pull the trigger on a late 997.2 Turbo S and the deal fell through as the car he was after sold. As there seems to be very few decent 997.2 Turbo S available he has started looking at alternatives. The car will be a second/weekend car. Maybe a track day or two each year and he has 1 small child so back seats are necessary.

Where would you put your money, 997 turbo s or 991.1 GTS and why?

I have exactly the same dilemma - do I sell the gt3 for one of these cars?

I have two young kids and the gt3 hardly ever gets used nowadays - I need something we all can enjoy (at least 'till the kids cannot fit anymore, then it's straight back to a gt3).

I had a 997 Turbo S for three years.

Very fast, but in all other respects the 991 GTS is a better car, IMO.

I had a 997 turbo albeit not an S, now have a 991 gts.1 manual, much prefer the Gts mainly due to the manual gearbox but the noise and much nicer interior make it the better car imo.

Was looking to do the same and change my 991.1GTS for a 997.2 Turbo S so took one for a long test drive last weekend. Result - I still have the GTS.

The TS is super fast but just a bit uninvolving imo and the 997 steering is older school Porsche and a bit floaty in today's world (though I'm sure some will disagree).

I think you need to get both out for a spin to make your own mind up.

Me, I think the modern cars suit me better so I'm going to give the 991.2GTS a try and see how I get on with new 3 litre Turbo power.

GTS for me also every day of the week. Just for the noise alone. While the turbo S is a great car I just found it too clinical. Probably best for your friend to test drive and see what he prefers

Problem is virtually all 991.1 gts' on PH are PDK - is a manual a rare beast?

Question is, is the manual any good? Not a fan of the 7 speed manual (reworked pdk box) and reports seem to suggest it didn't improve until 991.2 arrival! Now if it had the 6 speed as per gt4 then there would be no question of it being any good! So hence if I was looking to a 991 sadly I would go pdk and personally I would skip the 991.1 Gts and take the 991.2gts over a 997.2turboS

My 991.1 GTS Manual is great, I think the manual was re worked for the GTS. Chris Harris amongst others have video reviews online that suggest its the pick of the 991.1 line up

I believe it's this review of the 991.1 GTS where Mr Harris praises to manual box...he had that car as a long termer but I don't think ever published a video review.

Manual box with a duck tail...that car would be sort after these days!

I feel very fortunate to own my 991.1 manual GTS with ducktail.
I have also previously owned a 997 turbo. The GTS is a much better drive. It has soul. Turbo's are great gt cars in the traditional sense. A GTS is a better sports car period!

Your right, I confused it with the autocar video review which used the same car, that reviewer said he'd go PDK

There are other manual car video reviews that rave about the manual thou
