Autotrader - Up in price
Discussion
Been tracking a 20K vehicle for the last 4 months - just over 5 years old with a non franchised dealer.
The vehicle is nothing special 60K miles diesel and not really one of the desirable models.
This morning price went up by 1K.
Any reason for this?
I have seen this when a car is shifted from one dealer to another.

Why the hell are you watching a car for 4 months?
To be fair I`ve kind of done the same thing. In the past, I`ve planned to change my car in, let`s say, September. However, I`ve started to look on AT etc a couple of months ahead to get a feel for what is available, specs etc prior to the actual hunt commencing.
4 months appears a bit extreme though...
Some times bizarrely if its too cheap they don't sell. People are suspicious. Particularly now Autotrader have the priced low markers rather than good price/great value. Priced low sounds suspect IMO.
I sometimes put prices up £500 etc and find the car flys out or alternatively I get a call from someone who has been watching for months who says I had my eye on that, I agree to do it at original price and its prompted them to make a move.

If it's the same car then just use that to your advantage? Say you know the car has not sold for 4 months and you'll take it at the original price (or less). The reason why the price has gone up could be anyone's guess really. The vehicle is nothing special 60K miles diesel and not really one of the desirable models.

I sometimes think that but i'm told i'm wrong and we continue to price them low .... I always think spec and miles sell a car along with good quality photos, well hopefully that gets the customer on the phone.I sometimes put prices up £500 etc and find the car flys out or alternatively I get a call from someone who has been watching for months who says I had my eye on that, I agree to do it at original price and its prompted them to make a move.
Thanks for all your replies.
I can well understand that 4 months may be way to long for most of you but for someone on limited means it is no option to buy at the advertised price. There is no point in going in and negotiating since as we all know there isn't any wriggle room in the second hand market today.
On another note a similar car which I haven't been interested in has been on Autotrader now for nearly a year. Started at 31K and is now 24K.
For the car that I am interested in it seems that other dealers are newly advertising similar cars for 1K more so this dealer must have thought it needed to match those prices.
