If you are searching for a new car using Autotrader make sure to select lowest to highest price on the search tab as it is defaulting to sponsored adverts first and a lot of people have not noticed.

Not really the easiest or fairest search it seems anymore.

Because they can make money selling sponsor ads.

Not great for the end user, but I guess if people vote with their feet then it'll disappear.

Yes I've noticed this as well. You end up with cars that you don't want that are way too expensive at the top of the list.

Didn't notice for a good while, I was wondering why the car I wanted was so expensive all of a sudden, since the sponsored ads took up a good few pages.

Autotrader has always been like that though? You get a couple of sponsored at the top.

Pistonheads classifieds also chooses the 'Newest with pictures first' option, so if any seller has uploaded the ad with a view to putting up pictures later on, then these don't show unless you change the sort to date added instead.

No I think that's what they changed, it used to be one or two sponsored ads at the top, but now it's all the sponsored ads first, then all other ads on following pages. So you can have several pages of sponsored ads shown to you first before showing you the normal adverts.
