997 What do you think?

I am toying with the idea of getting a 997 to use for a few months. The idea would be to get one, use for the Summer and then sell and try to loose as little as possible.

I have just seen this advertised:

What features does this particular car lack / have?

Does it look a good example from the little that can be seen?

The car is not local.

I do not want to have difficulty selling the car on in the future

Too risky to buy if not putting any money in it is a priority. Does not matter how well looked after, things do go wrong and can cost quite a bit to put right. And that is without contemplating the possibility of engine problems, which would chew up your plan, spit it out and stomp on it like there was no tomorrow.

Colour combination is OK but tan leather is marmite (some love/some hate). Black I also a PITA to keep clean.

Lottery buying for a short term and hoping to avoid any big bills and come out evens.

I am a gambler.

I believe I could buy this car or similar, use for the summer and sell on for the same price or a profit.

I am not the sort of person who would think 'what if the engine goes bang'....

Life is too short.

The purpose of the thread was to get opinions on colours and options etc etc

See, I am not keen on black but love guards red. I picked the black one for saleability.

I will do a bit of homework. If I do decide to get one I will run a thread on here of the whole buying/using/selling experience.

I'd say it is definitely lacking the extended leather option!
You'd get away without the extended leather on a black interior, but it is mandatory on any other colour, IMO.

Guards Red would be a better choice. Probably less around so the few buyers who want Guards Red have less choice.

What does extended leather add, never heard of it, I know you can spec a few extra bits in leather like the center lower console...
Car looks nice, good price, I do miss mine a bit. But PSE is a must especially in a convertible

On the dashboard (?) - good option to have, make the defroster vents look good etc but no where near essential. Leather Centre console and around gear-lever is good imho.

I'm intrigued as to why you think you can turn a profit on the car after the summer. It isn't underpriced for the current market conditions.

As it happens a property has just come up will prob use the funds for that for the time being.

Years ago I was a part time vehicle trader.

I would prep and market the car properly.

Plus the fact I wouldn't be paying the advertised price.

Looks nice, as far as one can tell.

I wouldn't worry too much about PSE, particularly on a cab. All it does is noise, there are no performance benefits.

Really odd comment, cab is where you want it the most so you can hear your convertible sports car making a nice sound as you drive it around with the roof open

I do like the interior colour , a bit more grown up than plain black. However a while ago I drove a new Cayman with a light interior and the dash reflected a lot in the windscreen . It was a sunny day at the time and by the end of the drive the reflection was driving me mad. I'm surprised it's not been mentioned already. Does suit this type of car but worth trying before purchase! Regards. Ian

Is that right regarding the extended leather on the S? In continental spec (Fatherland and CH) leather was never standard on any Carrera (think only the Turbo got that, if ever). There where (and still is with the current 991.2) three stages:

- standard: bare minimum. Real leather only on the upper part of the front seat, steering wheel and on the glove box iirc.
- leather seats: The whole front seats (also the side) and the rear seats made of real leather.
-"extended/full" leather: Dashboard (stichting); doors; A-/B-/C-pillar; on the side of the PCM module, etc...

And then you have the extended options list where you can have just about any part covered in leather. You can have the fins of the ventilation covered in leather. Not the just the surrounding, but the actual fins!!! Every single one of them!

Not sure about the base 997 but on the S and above you get as standard: the 4 seats, side of the PCM console, dashboard including over the binacle, rear side panels next to seats, all in leather
