Hi,
I have just bought a 997s, it has all the kit I need plus some I don't (sunroof on a car like this?)

But one thing it doesn't have is the switchable sports Exhaust. I'm just wondering what my best option is, the car is out of the warranty so no issues there.

I would prefer switchable as I leave for work early although if that turns out too expensive my neighbors will just have to learn to love a cold start flat 6 sound.

I have done a search for posts and can't find anything newer than 2010.

Would a OPC even do this mod for a 997 these days?

Any experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

There are many options including:

A) a complete retrofit of the PSE including the standard switch and wiring. This is the most expensive and has a number of disadvantages including switching to quiet mode at various rev ranges...and does not remember the last settings so needs to be switched on on power up.

B) retrofit of PSE exhaust units (or non OEM alternatives) with a Carewal remote control kit. This is less expensive and overcomes the disadvantages mentioned above

C) as for B except with a Carnewal wired switch rather than the remote. The disadvantage is that the switch is a standalone switch installed on the middle console and hence looks non genuine

D) as for C except with the addition of a latched relay and the OEM switch panel including the PSE switch. This overcomes the disadvantages mentioned in A and looks genuine. I am currently doing this on my 997.2. More details in 911UK forum if interested.

If you want more noise and can live without switching the exhaust to "quiet" there are much cheaper solutions including simply retrofitting the PSE exhausts without the vacuum switching or even cheaper the so-called Gundo hack and/ or installing the H&S back box bypass ( for the 997.2)

Thanks for the comprehensive answer, lots to think about there.

I should of said it's a gen 1.

Ok let's say I wanted the full Official PSE with genuine switch is that something only OPC could do?

Also what can I expect to pay?

Thanks

OPCs will certainly do the PSE retrofit but parts alone are over 2000 GBP as far as I understand the pricing in the UK ( I'm in Aus and it's even dearer) plus around 10 hours of labour. But any competent specialist could do the job. It involves slicing into the DME wiring ( the engine management processor) which controls the exhaust switching and switches it to "quiet" mode over a certain rev range to meet (Swiss?) noise regulations.

Just fit a carnewal modified exhaust! This is coming from someone who hates loud exhausts but I have one on my car.

Well I had the same dilemma two years ago. I went with the gundo hack as it was the cheapest most original option. The plan was to change to another compete system at some point but I really like the sound, not too loud at all.

I now hope the system lasts a few years longer as this is a very nice sound, with no switches to fanny around with .... £200 - £300 too
