991 targa prices?
Discussion
Six months ago I went to my local OPC to view a rather nice well spec'd 991 targa, but at the time the figures just did not work out for me so passed on it. I noticed yesterday that the exact car is back in for sale again, but it is now £2k MORE, even though it is now 6 months older and having covered another 5k ish miles.
Are these cars so in demand that the prices are on the way up, or are the OPC just chancing their arm?
I would have thought that as all the reviews seem to indicate that the newer 3.0 turbo engine suits this particular model better due to the low down torque helping over come the added weight that prices for the N/A targa would be dropping a bit.
As my current car has obviously depreciated in the intervening time, the numbers are even worse now so looks like I'm going to have to give targa ownership a miss for now. I only hope that prices drop eventually or I will have missed the boat entirely.

You're correct of course on time of year, but I've just realised it was actually end of August I viewed it before, so in actual fact about 8 months ago, and still a warm(ish!) time of year. Not bad for whoever did buy it I suppose, assuming they didn't lose a great deal. Either way the OPC is doing well out of this particular car
991.1 Targa's were quite rare cars I think as most OPC's didn't get many build slots and always seem to sell quickly especially the GTS. Car market has been nuts for quite a while as we know and good spec cars sell quickly....depending on what you're trading in I wouldn't have thought your trade in price should have come off too much.

I see 991 Gen II Targa 4 manual (I'm totally okay with manual) starting at £95k and older Gen I Targa 4S at more, but am being told that the Gen II Targe 4 is quicker in the real world and has the faster steering, more torque, better PCM etc. No sense to buy a Gen I?
It's totally down to the Naturally Aspirated vs Turbo engine I think. If any car suits the Turbo in the 911 range its the Targa because of the weight. There's also a lot to be said for ordering a car to your spec! Talking of which I'd suggest finding out when you can get one....last time I heard Targa's had a long lead time. I bought my old 991.1 S for £63990 in Oct 2015 (they had it on the market for 3 months). I traded it in for a 997 GTS Cab in Jan 2017 and they sold my 991 for £67000, with 11000 miles more on the clock (after one week of having it in stock). The cars do not depreciate much, they list the car at a high price and gradually reduce it until it sells, so they do often sell for more, it just depends if a buyer bites on the hook... Don't forget that they are always adding a 2 year extended warranty on to the price as well...

The Gen II Targa 4 i've seen is on the used car front at my local OPC, so no wait involved. Quite a rare thing so should hold its value quite well for a couple of years at least?
991 Targa's whatever flavour will hold there value really...fantastic looking cars, made in low volumes and unique on the market. They're also unlike any generation before. If it's a long term proposition the only downside is that you'd be mad not to keep a full OPC warranty on it as f
k me if that roof went wrong it would be incredibly expensive to fix. Cheib said:

I had the roof recovered on a 991 Targa,
k me if that roof went wrong it would be incredibly expensive to fix. The trimmers commented that the roof mechanism was very similar to a BMW E36 roof mechanism
