Hi, my wife was robbed on the morning of 1 may 2017 at 05:45 am in Barcelona, in the Barceloneta zone, street Carrer De Ramon, near the Opium and Catwalk club. After leaving the club and searching for a taxi, a group of 5-6 persons made a circle around us and they stold her watch from her hand. It was a Hublot Big Bang Steel with Diamonds, Reference 341.SX.130.RX.114, serial number 1107309. We also made a complaint at the police in Barcelona. I spent two nights speaking with persons that work on that area and they told me that every nigh from 04 am to 06 am this group of persons (Pakistanez, turkish and maro) steal watches, wallets from the persons that are leaving the clubs. Also, from what I can see the police is not interested in stopping them. I am willing to offer a 2500 euros reward for recovering the watch.
Thank you!

I saw other posts like mine so I did not think my post is such a big problem. Sorry if it is for you!

Two separate posts of watches stolen in Barcelona on one page! What's up with the Spanish these days?

I find the way to avoid being mugged or pickpocketed is to blend in with the locals. By way of example, Angola and the Congo showing my chameleon like ability. Scary ability I know.

got to be honest with you but if anyone on here had 'information' then they are probably in on it. As unlikely as this is, if it was the case then the watch would be worth more than the reward so you're not even probably going to get what you need from PH, or anywhere really based on that post. I'd also be questioning the perceived need to take a watch like that to a city so internationally famous for muggings, as much as I feel sorry that your wife had to go through it.

edit just as i posted this i noticed there was another post on someone being mugged for their watch in barcelona right underneath.

I would tentatively suggest that you are partially correct in your comments about wearing a watch like that out in the time and place as reported. Where do you draw the line?!

The OP's wife at worst was naive, but it is a very common practice in Barcelona. Barcelona has a foul reputation for street robberies/muggings and pick pocketing. I have been there 5 or 6 times in the last 10 years and always stress the importance of no big ticket items being on display. Porto Olympico and the entrance thereof seems to be a hot spot.

On 3 rugby tours we've never come back from Barcelona "victim-less" and of late it seems to be phones that are the targets, not for the phones (that's a bonus) but for the sim cards that go as fast as possible into a sim server and start call international premium rate numbers!!

OP, hope all is well and the item was insured...

TBH there is no right answer. Yes no-one should be stealing from you... but unfortunately they do. You shouldn't have to feel like you need to change your behaviour or your appearance, but if you do then you are avoiding (or certainly vastly reducing) being a target. As an analogy, you could also argue that if another driver does something stupid on the road then you shouldn't have to avoid them, but the police and insurers would absolutely say you have a part to play in avoiding an incident. It's a bit similar. Other people do bad things, and we know they do.
