Furniture and stuff

I'm finding it frustratingly difficult to find half decent solid wood furniture here that isn't either tat, hugely overpriced (pottery barn etc) or basically ornate Asian style imported dark wood. I just want simple oak type stuff, much like you get in the UK at the generic oak furniture shops. I'm considering buying from abroad. Any suggestions on this?

Sorry for this extremely non PH thread but I'm not desperate enough to go on expatwomen just yet.

if you know what you want pretty easy to get it made here lots of quality joinery work shops around.

Yep, there are a few places around that will make stuff for you, one particularly well known one in Sharjah, I'll ask the missus for names.

There is a bloke on bookface that does some nice stuff as well, but I can't for the life of me find him now.

Sounds ideal. Never even considered that actually so if you could recommend that would be great. I'll do a bit of a search also

You need to go to achipelago on umm suqueim. Have loads of light oak stuff like you'd see in the uk. Not ridiculously priced either.
