We moved from the UK to Cairns in far north QLD 6 months ago and I'm missing the accessibility of track days that I had back home. We're planning to stay here for another year but considering moving to Sunshine Coast / Brisbane / Gold Coast after this. We're set on staying in QLD as the weather in NSW/VIC is a bit too cool, but when picking somewhere to settle I would like to factor in whether there are any track days available within a couple of hours drive.

I've found a couple of circuits near by (Lakeside Park, Morgan Park, Queensland Raceway) but what I can't find are any event organisers, such as Javelin / MSV etc we had in the UK. Can anybody suggest any equivalent organisers over here that I can see a sample of the events and locations available?

Thanks

There used to be regulars in Ipswitch, but that was a whole ago. Still only 40 min drive from brissy.

My pal moved over to sunshine coast & seemed to find there wasn't the same type of trackday scene in QLD that he had enjoyed for years in Uk & Europe & perhaps the only bit of blighty he misses.

Because of that does sprints now & race testdays, lakeside mainly as it's closest, I was in Oz in Jan & we did a race testday at Queensland raceway, (I just bought a 1 day licence) as couldn't get anything at Lakeside was great but v different to UK trackdays obviously.

Look under GEAR days.

These are a little different to track days in the US or UK, & are meant more as practice days.

However the requirements are minimal, & they are held regularly at Lakeside & Qld raceway.

Quite a few of my vintage & classic mates attend them in pretty ordinary machinery, just to have fun.

Aren't they the trundle around 120kmh limit & no helmets days?

Spoke gear day committee member tonight. It is aimed at the classic/historic racing people.

No restrictions other than,

No racing other cars, but 10 10Ths is fine if you're up to it.

Cars must be 1978 or earlier models.

Grab yourself a cheap TR7, stick a Rover V8 in it, & you have a cheap track day car.

I live 20 mins from Lakeside which is very similar to Lydden and I'm 45 mins from Qld raceway. I joined the MX5 club (I don't have an MX5) and get access to about 6 track days a year including Morgan Park. You can join other clubs like Porsche and Lotus and get even more track time if needed.
The track days are actually timed events but it's very similar to a UK track day just with the benefit of getting your times at the end of each session. You typically get 6-8 sessions of 7 laps so plenty of time. Don't bother with Happy Laps.
There's also a few hill climb events in Brisbane and Noosa as well as street sprints where they close off streets in country towns and you rag round all day.
There's also a brilliant cars n coffee every month in the city and the roads around MT Mee and MT Glorious are driving nirvana.
When I lived in Sydney it was only the concerted efforts of Colonial and Googlebot that kept me remotely interested in cars but in Qld I'm loving it again.
