Best MPV for £1000?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm going to be getting rid of my ford focus for various reasons but I'm looking to get an MPV as I want something bigger, more comfortable and hopefully safer!
Iv got a limit of £1000 and so far iv got my eyes on a Citreon Picasso, Renault Scenic or a Vauxhall Zafira.
I drove a picasso yesterday and although I liked it i found the clutch pedal to be uncomfortable on my foot, my foot kept getting stuck in the footwell unless I turned it to the 10 o'clock position. I'm hoping to test drive a zafira tomorrow and possibly a scenic as well.
Just wondering if you could offer any insight to what it's like owning any of these cars or anything to look out for? Or maybe any other MPV'S to look out for?
Thanks

Thanks you for that, my other half absolutely hates the Fiat (I'm not overly keen on the outside either lol).
How come you feel the zafira is more practical? Is it because of the fold away seats?
My Mum had a Scenic, brand new one at the time, on an V reg I think - It was nice but meh in terms of practicality. How come you feel the zafira is more practical? Is it because of the fold away seats?
The youth leader at my youth club had a Zafira and it was much nicer.
Also, it's based on an Astra so parts are cheaper, it's not AWFUL to drive for the type of vehicle. And quite easy to work on yourself and spare parts are a plenty.
O/H has had a Picasso for the last 7 years, she treats it as a tip. I try and keep it mechanically sound, but she doesn't have much sympathy for it, it's huge inside for it's footprint, seats come out to turn it into a van, and it returns 40mpg everywhere (1.6 petrol).
For a grand I'd buy the best you can find regardless of make, however saying that, you'll probably get a newer Picasso than any of the others as they were dirt cheap to start with.

It depends entirely on what is limiting your budget. If you're spending £1k because you want a car you don't care about, but can afford more then the best option is a Renault Scenic. It's well designed, comfortable, not too bad to drive and the best family car you'll get for the cash, however they can go wrong and cost a lot to repair. I had one 3 years ago, the previous owner had spent over £1k in 4 months on bits of electric handbrake, a new dash panel and replacement key card so you need to be aware it may go wrong or simply have to be scrapped.
If your budget is £1k because that's all you have then you're better off with a petrol powered Zafira - it's not as practical, less well designed inside and worse to drive but will be more reliable and cheaper to fix.

C Max - IMO if you don't need 7 seats these are a bargain.
