Tight budget I know, and everyone's definition of fast is debatable, but mine is sub <7 seconds.

Currently considering a Type R (FN2 I think the designation is), a RS Megan R26 is a maybe too, but doesn't seem many decent ones out there - anything else to consider?

Require:

2 adults + 2 child seating
MPG not a particular issue
Relatively reliable (will be main car)
£6k realistic budget - insurance not an issue
<7 sec to 60 and ideally "fun"

What else can I throw in the mix? doing the above on auto trader pulls up loads of mis-badged Fiesta Zetecs and things like that!

I have the Type R, its a great car but its worth bearing in mind that the Honda and Renault are slightly more focused/hardcore compared to the competition at the time and some people find them too much for the daily grind due to firm ride, bucket seats and lack of creature comforts

Also as it will be a family car you should also know using 200bhp is pretty noisy and frantic (sounds like a mini touring car!).

That aside they are very reliable, have an almost estate size boot with the rear seats folded flat and are refined when driven normally getting 35mpg

I'd say a Mondeo they're loaded with kit comfortable & a good steer to, the 2.0T is hard to find 0-60 in 7.7 secs a bit of a tickle by Mountune & you could see 260bhp.
