Good pal of mine is taking part in the Centurion 100 mile Thames Path Trail Run at the end of the month............and I'm riding it as his support crew (personally I think he's f*****g mental taking part in these long distance trail runs but each to his own).

Now, here's the rub. According to National trails website the path is only accessible to bikes in certain places (no issue with that, I tend not to ride on footpaths) but it appears that NCR 4 and NCR 5 prettttty much follow the whole route (Richmond Park - Oxford)

I'm not familiar with the route at all so any advice if you are familiar with it would be greatly appreciated.

Going north you have to get off the river in the Tilehurst area and you need to work out which side of the river you'll be on between Reading and Oxford some sections are cycle friendly on one side and not the other etc, Pangbourne to Goring on the east side is a great fun bike friendly section. Goring to Wallingford on East is mostly ok but you have to divert on to road around South stoke - they have put in gates on the foot path section that would have you cursing if you attempted to ride through. OS maps would be your best way of planning a route.

You will be clear from Richmond to Walton but then you could merrily keep going up the towpath from Walton bridge to Weybridge at which point you'd get stuck. To follow the river you'd need to cross Walton bridge and go to the Shepperton side and up to Chertsey. No idea what happens after that but I'd assume both of you will be crossing the river quite a lot. All of that part is bike friendly though.
