Hi,

Was browsing for insurance last night for a 111R (not that i have one yet). When getting a quote from direct line they suggested it had to be fitted with a tracking device (gps I assume).

Is this the norm or are direct line being unreasonable ?

Cheers
Scott

Its becoming more the norm.
Not all insurance companies insist on it, but most seem to.
The one I'm with, Liverpool Victoria, dont and they are fairly reasonable, or at least were in my case

I was with Direct Line and yes they did insist on a tracker system or similar.

Shopped about a bit and got lower quotes elsewhere as a Lotus is a bit too specialist for Direct Line - I'm now with Esteem/AON.

find an insurer that dosent require one..not all do. Some of them have a blanket requirement for cars above group 17 etc that must have a tracker fitted. Others go on risk. The Elise is very low risk for theft so you dont really need one....in the last 3 years Ive heard of about 3 thefts, and they were from dealers forecourts.....up to you really I guess, if youd want the car back and also the area in which you live etc

I'm with Admiral and they don't stipulate a tracker. Pretty reasonable cost for a 111S at £520 for 12 months with protected bonus.
Budget in 43 years 'old git' status though...

I find that Esteem/Aon offer a very competitive premium for the 111R,without insisting on a tracking device. They also offer 10% discount to members of Lotus Club International and 10% for having attended a Lotus Driver Training Course. Track day cover is easy to arrange too and they have an excellent Lotus product knowlege. Tel: James Caton 01483 706051

Just over £600 with Bell Direct with full no claims bonus (protected) on a S1 111S. I could probably get that down a bit elsewhere if I hunted but they also match your no claims on a second which sold it for me
Edited to add - no tracker required either!
