historic racing regs - Top Hat

does anyone know anything about the regs for historic racing? we watched the Top Hat stuff at Combe yesterday and were wondering what sort of regs the cars run to as most seemed to be standard. Had a good look around an Elan Sprint and it seemed to be standard (bar the engine?!?) aside the necessary safety requirements. does it all look too good to be true!!!???
Did you enjoy Castle Combe Pablo ?, I had a grand day out until the sun went in. £12 for a days entertainment for me and the three rugrats. Bargain.

yeah, had a great time! went to the Top Hat meeting last year too. the racing in all four classes was just great. they have done a really good job of creating a good racing series! the galaxies and falcons were hilarious through old paddock, the drivers must have been sea sick! mind you it was five deep at quarry!! didnt manage to do the lap though as we were bumbling around the paddock. i normally enjoy watching the formula fords through tower...screech....ker-thump!
we were looking at the cloth cap series (1 hour 2 driver) and saw a few people using MGBs. as you do at motor races, you think "well it cant be that much can it?!?!" so myself and a friend are just doping a bit of digging at the moment... needless to say we will soon find out that its far beyond our (non existent) budget but you never know....

the first thing you guys need is to get a licence. the steps are
1) get the ards pack and application form ( 50 quid)
2) get medical (40-60 quid)
3) do ards test (200-400 quid)
4) get licence ( 65 quid)
5) get kitted out ( suit-300, helmet 200, gloves 40, boots 60)
then all you need is to join the relavant club/championship and find a car...
Any help ?
p.s. If you fancy tvr racing i Know where there is a fairly successful class A tasmin for hire

i'm quite familiar with the procedures, see profile!, its more a case of what sort of car (model year etc), what can be done to it and does it need to be complete with FIA papers etc.
Pablo- I think the Elan Sprint that you saw was me and my brother. Was also racing a MK1 Lotus Cortina in the Top Hat pre-66 touring car car race.
In simple terms the Elan has engine done, suspension done and safety kit installed.
I think that this year Top Hat does require FIA papers- I know that car's I get the chance to drive are all FIA cars so we can do pretty much everything.
Definitely recommend it to anyone. Have done a little bit of modern racing too but historics is where it's at for both young and old!
