Which trickle charger? 911 997
Discussion
Hi all,
I've had the 911 2 years now and for the first 21 months never had battery issues (battery was replaced when I bought it). However twice since Christmas the car has failed to start after not being driven for 3 weeks each time. I assume this is normal and there's not an issue?
I'm going to have to buy a trickle charger but don't know which one. I've read that CTEK are the best but which model is required for my 997 C4S?
Thanks in advance.

Letting a lead acid battery run low is a good way to shorten its life.
You'll need to charge until the battery reaches sufficient voltage (about 12.5). This will be limited by the size of the charger, 5 amps in the case of the CTEK above. A more powerful charger can do the job faster.
It might start after about 5-6 hours, but make sure you fully charge it.
If you think you would like to be able to charge more quickly, buy a bigger charger. I use an MXS 10.

The CTEC chargers do a good job nursing a completely flat battery back to life. I inadvertently left the car without trickle charging over winter which meant it was completely flat. The CTEC brought it back to life but I agree it's important to let it charge the battery completely.
The car now starts easily but not with quite the same vigour as a new battery which makes me think it's not long for this world, so I carry a starter pack with me just in case.
