M2 vs 987 Cayman

Had the M2 for 5 months now and strangely, given the reviews, not really getting on with it. Quite underwhelmed to frank. Been thinking about other options and wondered how a 987 Cayman would compare. Anyone here had any experience along these lines?

Nothing wrong with the handling...I'm struggling to get excited about;

1.Turbo'd engine
2. Auto blip down shifts
3. Synthetic noise.

I took out my 993 last weekend as the sun has finally come out and came to the conclusion I prefer everything about it.

Not driven an M2 but recently bought a gen 2 Cayman S manual. It's up there with the best cars I have owned as all round package and still analogue enough to put a smile on your face, cross country B road pace is impressive too. I'd imagine at your price level a Cayman R could be px'd for so in theory you could end with something quite special that won't loose money either.

I would agree but I also think that there's a limit to how much power you actually need on public roads and still have fun (and keep your licence). I'm beginning to think that further up the food chain, this BHP arms race is is utterly pointless.

Considered/considering both but the finance on the second hand cars is going to be far less generous than my current deal on the M2 so that doesn't make financial sense at least. But I agree, the thought of an R is appealing.

I just got out of a 993 and ordered an M2 18 months ago. As a stop gap I bought a 981 Cayman 2.7 and have really fallen for it. For the road you need no more power but on tracks like Silverstone it can get a little lost but still huge fun. So much fun in fact that I've cancelled my M2 order as I just know it wouldn't be as much fun as the Cayman.

Fair enough, if you intend to keep it then Hitachi personal loan or similar over a longer period might be a better bet.

Don't dismiss an S either, it's still a great car in it's own right, I've owned quicker cars, but on the road this car has just the right amount of go, that being said it's a shame they never put the old Mezger GT3 engine in one as thats all that stops it being the best Porsche I've owned.

I'm thinking exactly along the same lines, but I seem to have done it the hard way. My 993's a keeper though. I look at these massive new 991s with a touch of sadness. I guess the Cayman is the true sports car in Porsche's range.

A strong vote of confidence indeed. So I'm now thinking one of the following....
1. S....probably won't depreciate too much more, and probably 50% the price of the others.
2. R....better drive, more special and may actually appreciate.
3. Gen 2....better drive still, but will definitely depreciate.
