I have only a few watches that were bought more idly than anything else...a Porsche Design P6000 as a daily hacker, and a JLC Reverso Duo. I am thinking that just one additional watch would be nice.

I understand the massive interest in complications, and the trend to diver/pilot/chronograph watches but this is not for me. Its been a long time since I bought a good watch, ( my old JLC Reverso below), but I was thinking of a Breguet 5i57BA in gold. I have looked at Pateks and know enough that they are the top of the pile, but apart from the standard gold Calatravas they are not as simple in many cases as I would like.

Basic watch should be gold with leather strap and simply tell the time accurately. If it has a date, so be it. There are many very knowledgeable people here so thought I would check. I tend to hang onto stuff for decades so not getting rid of existing watches, and have no need to be fashionable.

For me it would be a Blancpain Villeret or Zenith Elite.

IWC Portuguese or a Max Bill Chronoscope.

Neither quite as simple as you like but very very discreet and lovely looking timepieces

Agree with zenith elite. A pricier option could be Vacheron patrimony range, very stealth wealth.

Something from H Moser? Beautiful watches that fly completely under the radar of most people.

The centre seconds is very elegant IMHO.

How about http://dornblueth.com ?

They are made to order, for you. It's not a multinational it's 5 guys in Glashulte and the watch is made for you.

You could stay with JLC - some of the Master Ultra Thins are the epitome of elegant simplicity.

Moser is a very good call. Simple, stunningly beautiful and very discrete.

I love the Lange & Sohne Lange 1. Given your requirements I'd suggest the complications that attract me (power reserve and big date) are not so high up your list!

I was going to suggest them but not sure they do gold.

A friend has a Moser and it is lovely and very understated.

A Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin

72hr power reserve, 37mm diameter, around 6mm thick, white gold case, solid silver dial, rhodium-plated gold indices, and the best display back in the business, with unique hand-engraved balance-cock to complement the hand-finished movement.

At a 'reasonable' (by such standards) £12,000 brand new and as simple as they come with hour & minute hands only, it's the best around.

Ahh I completely missed the gold bit! biggrin

Another idea a Ulysses Nardin Classico with a plain enamel dial is a very beautiful thing.

I'd be hard pushed to look past the newer Cellini range, I've always been a fan...

Some interesting watches..many thanks.

I do like the A Lange and Sohn....but it has occurred to me that I like watches with numbers instead of pips....not so easy.
