Trying to get around current company car regulations. I am considering a personal import of a Holden Maloo (UTE SS from Australia). Over here appear to be around £27,000 with full spec, in Australia $45,000 (approx£15,000). So I was wondering if anyone knew is VAT on this price or are there other import duties as well. What are haulage/freight costs? Can anyone recommend an importer (everyone I found was EC only).

You need to pay VAT I know that much.

Oh, and I think there is someone who owns or runs or works for a Frieght Forwarding company on this very forum...

I have recently returned from OZ and considered bring my 4WD back with me. On top of of the buy price in Australia, you will have to pay stamp duty at approx 4%, this amount varies by state and you may not have to pay this on an immediate export. Shipping cost will be in the region of Aus$3000 for the container plus marine insurance of approx 3.5%.
UK costs (if the car has not been owned and used by yourself in OZ for 6 months), there will be 17.5% VAT and 10% import duty. Normal insurance will be higher because the availibility of specific spare parts will be limited.
Then will then be the costs of SVA, to get through the SVA you will have to change speedo to mph nad possibly bin the remote locking as this item does not work on the same frequency. I have a lot more info on this and if you need specifics, please feel free to email me.

Thanx KenD
All of a sudden £15,000 + duties = £22500 + SVA + conversions etc £27000 on the road is sounding a lot more reasonable
