HELP! Driving in Cork, Ireland

Hi all,

I am getting married in west Cork this summer and was wondering if anyone had any tips for (a) good roads and (b) where I might be able to rent a fun car for the trip - I'm thinking something sporty-ish but classic, perhaps a drop top. Ideally one which won't break down on the way to the church!

My worry is that all the cars will be in Dublin and will be a nightmare to get down to Cork and back.

I think there is a place in Limerick that offers something - heritage sports cars if memory serves correct (no affiliation nor am I able to recommend). There is another place in Dublin too. Can't remember the name though. Google would throw us some results!

From what I can recall they didn't stock anything overly exotic. They weren't cheap either, but if it's for a wedding....

As for roads, I've not done huge miles down there... but any I have had stunning scenery with roads tending to be quite poor - narrow, twisty with awful surfaces.

I have recently moved to the west of Ireland and have to say the choice is not brilliant.

If you are internet searching, you need to use the word vintage rather than classic.

The Drive from Dublin to Cork with the new roads is a doddle compared to years ago dont rule out getting a car in Dublin

Gotta say, I have found that driving familiar roads in east Cork, they have speed signs before corners that if taken at the allowed speed you will end up in a tree!
I would hope West Cork is different.
