Well to list some of my watches, Heuer Monaco (1960's issue not new Tag tat) and a Breitling B1, you don't get much bigger than that

A similar comment was made by one of the "experts" on the antiques roadshow.

He mentioned that people who have an antique/classic car are also likely to own an antique classic watch. Citing collectors who have an interest in both.

Something to do with an interest in engineering.

Personally if I had loads of spare cash I'd be collecting cars and watches. From an "it's a blokes thing" perspective.

Hey Raceboy, that original Heuer Monaco is worth a bit, I think Coulthard's got one. Agreed the new one is marketing department tat.

I've got an original Heuer Carrera as well, and a Daytona in steel on order (still got 3 years to wait)

Are you serious? 3 years for a Daytona?

At Atlanta Airport about 7 months ago they had 4 at the jewellers one in steel, one in steel/gold, one in gold and one in gold with a leather strap.

I REALLY want one of those, just cant justify it at the moment.

If you go into a UK Jewelers and ask for a steel daytona it's now a 9 year wait, they fetch £6k 2nd hand instantly, and they are only £3.5k new oh I've got a seamaster on at the moment

This wait only applies to steel daytona's Gold/yellow metal ones half in value instead of double and are available ex-stock

In that case if I see a steel daytona I'll pick it up regardless of cost!

Polar M52.

It's not big, but it is clever.

Personally, I'm unable to muster any interest in watches at all, hence I cannot fathom the desire to spend thousands of pounds on them.

Bought the Missus a Gucci watch as a wedding present and that hurt quite enough..

Don't wear one - driving the Cerbera makes time stand still anyway

Aren't the big (price) watches regarded as currency/collateral, as they retain the same value regardless of the wearers global location?

Seems unlikely if you can pick one up in the States and sell it over here for twice the face value the next day..

Not sure about that as both Rolex's and Omega's are way cheaper in the states.

The place in Atlanta may have had a steel daytona in the window but I'd bet on it being ready for collection by the lucky owner rather than up for sale.

Anywhere except Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok and Golden Square, Hong Kong, that is.

I'm only saying 'cause some guys I worked with in Kuala Lumpur told me what my (old)Tag would cost in Ringgits - it worked out the same. Just thought at the time I could throw it onto a roulette table anywhere in the world and get the same chips.
