Hi all, there is talk (and some teasers from Dodge) re: a new Challenger Demon model coming out with more power, upgrades etc compared to the Hellcat.

For those with previous experience in the import market, will this result in a dive in Hellcat prices? They still remain quite rare and I'm hoping focused on different types of purposes. I get the impression the Demon will be a lighter, better dragster and with improved handling. The Hellcat hopefully still seen as a decent all-rounder.

Have my eye on a Hellcat and trying to decide what to do.

Yes, Hellcat prices have come down quite a bit from what they were.

It looks like there will be two versions. The Demon and the ADR a more drag focused version of the Demon. BHP everyone is still taking a guess but it could be around 1000bhp and rear wheel drive only. Stateside it will have an impact on Hellcat pricing but not so much over here. The problem will be getting one without having to pay mega money over Dodge's list price. I went through all this headache back in late 2014. Not really looking to do it all again. I am going to reserve judgement until its debut at the New York Auto Show next month. I really hope I do not want one

Thanks guys. Yes just seen some new info on the Demon and may be a very narrow market for it.

SRT, I take it you own a Hellcat? May I ask if you have had any supercharger issues and whether you obtained warranty through your importer or third party? I hear there were some supercharger bearing issues with certain runs of hellcats and a new one is $19,000 which I don't particularly fancy.

It was a personal import so no warranty from Dodge. I could have bought a third party warranty but I did not feel it was worth the money. No problems. I believe a new supercharger is $8000.
That said I have taken precautions with regards to some issues the early 2015 cars had. I have an ATI lower pulley, pinned the crank and have fitted a new all aluminium high performance radiator. Buy one. You will not be disappointed. They really are a lot of fun biggrin

With a Hellcat the biggest problem is getting the power down, I would think that gets worse with more power.

Kevin, very good point and I wonder this about the Demon. I hear it comes with drag radials (or near enough type of tyre) as standard.

SRT, really useful info, I may need to do these things as the car I'm looking at is a '65 plate so not sure how early. Has 3k miles on it. May I ask where you have had the work done and the sort of cost involved? I don't know any Dodge/American specialists. Do independent garages here have the ability to software updates for the car?

I use my good friend and mechanic mate Brian. I bought all the parts from the states. Too long ago to remember exactly what I paid for them but I would recommend you buy the parts from High Horse Performance. They are very good guys. As for software updates not really interested. Back in the day some guys that obviously had updates done at the dealership had issues. Mine runs fine, pulls like a train so I would rather leave well alone. Traction is not a big issue. Certainly from a 50 roll it tends to just grip and go but 707 is a lot of power. I ran it at the pod at the end of last year. Rained all morning and they did not get the track dry until 2pm. So a cold, wet miserable day. My first time at the strip. We ran out of time to play with tyre pressures. I would like to have dropped them to 20psi. (standard summer Pirelli's) Best I ran was an 11.8 at 126mph. Second gear launch.

Thanks SRT. That's an excellent time given the conditions.

HHP are great and I knew about them although never needed to use them. I may pm you if that's ok to see if your friend would like another hellcat job.

I listened to the car I may be buying today and from cold startup there was a mild whine from the supercharger but when it settled to idle rpm it was very hard to notice. Certainly nothing like the mess you can hear on some of the "shot" superchargers on hellcat.org. I'll need to understand when one goes for a completely new supercharger unit vs being able to do these safety mods without doing anything overkill.

Re: the radiator, was your car overheating?

Brian would be fine with that. He is based near Waltham Abbey.
No overheating. Some of the early cars suffered radiator issues. They had not been crimped together properly. I just did not want to take a chance. Most of what I have done is just preventative maintenance apart from some nice pieces from Billet Technology and two catch cans.
