Just got back from my hols to find that my dad had a bit of a DVT drama (you turn your back for a minute...!).

He actually went the doc for an ear problem, and mentioned a bruise-like pain in his lower leg, and a slight lump. Doc was excellent, and because dad mentioned he'd just returned from India by air, immediately began the precautionary checks. Dad's now had his fourth daily injection session of a chemical that is supposed to thin his blood a bit and break up the clot. After tomorrow, I think the doc will do a scan, and possibly take a view on further medication.

Naturally I'm very worried, especially as, like most dads, he hasn't checked what sort of exercise he can do to help, what might increase the chances of making the problem worse, and what the whole treatment process entails.

I'm searching the Internerd for info now, but would be grateful for any comments from you guys in the know!

Cheers, Toby

My uncle had exactly the same thing last year, and had the same treatment as your father. It took a few days to work but did the job, so try not to worry too much.

I has this happen when I was 19, sudden little pain and whooph, straight into A&E.

Took me three months of not drinking and warfarin tablets to sort myself out.

The first drink after 3 months had me on my back!
