Tag Connected 2
Discussion
I'm a bit surprised there isn't a thread on this already - announced at 11am GMT yesterday:
https://www.tagheuer.com/en/watches/tag-heuer-conn...
To my eye, they've addressed everything that stopped be from buying the first one - the only real issue (for me) now is that introducing all the options for straps, lugs and bezels has made it agonising to decide what to go for.
Next point: Does the connected fall into the "never pay full rrp for a Tag" bracket with regards to buying in cash from places offering interest free? I live in HK so I need to decide whether I'm better off buying here (where there is no sales tax - but prices seem to be RRP anyway), or negotiating in the UK at easter from somewhere like Goldsmiths and getting my VAT back. Thoughts welcomed!

Last one they would only offer 0% on if you dug your heels in, and even then a lot of places wouldn't. The one at Canary Wharf finally offered it to me after calling head office to get clearance but this was a month or two after they had apparently sold out!
Will be interesting to see what owners of the first one get offered with the buy back scheme they had.

The price for the mechanical version has always been clearly shown in all paperwork had you of paid the slightest bit of interest.
But to recap for those who missed it the cost is
£1200
Sorry i meant £1200 plus the smart watch so we can take the data and learn from it.
Sorry i meant £1200 plus the smart watch and we won't look at your data.
Sorry i meant £1200 plus the smart watch and you will get this watch in return.
Sorry i meant £1200 plus the smart watch and the watch will look slightly like this.
Sorry i meant £1200 plus the smart watch and we just put the mechanical internals into the old case.
Sorry i meant it should be in the region of £1200 and will go in the case of the connected watch and be a calibre 5 movement.
I stopped listening to their lies at this point and vowed never to buy another new Tag Heuer watch or send any of my existing watches to them for a service.

People do seem to be pretty upset that the new version has been released for two reasons:
1) they don't like that their original is now out of date and seem to have forgotten that technology always has a shelflife of 12-18mths
2) they haven't been offered the mechanical exchange yet (even though it was clearly stated as being available after two years)
Tag seem to have rectified this with the modular by offering a couple of different mechanical..erm...bits..from day 1. Granted not cheap (13k gbp I think for one of them?!)
I'm going to get one, because I think it looks nice, and I've wanted a smartwatch for a while with no real understanding of why, and this is the first one I've actually liked the look of. I'm sure the money would be better spent on an automatic - but quite frankly the money on an automatic could be better spent on a casio - usual argument isn't it. There is literally no genuine justification for spending a lot of money on a watch. So you pick something you fancy and you go for it.
I, too, HATED the launch presentation - from the bow and arrow onwards. I turned it off after a couple of mins and looked at the website.

I have a colleague who picked one up on launch day from Goldsmiths. Wore it for a day and took it back yesterday for a full refund after speaking with TAG.
Apparently the battery life was quoted by TAG as a full charge lasting 25-30 hours when in reality he got around 10 hours usage on a full charge with power saving options switched on and the watch not even on his wrist.

Excuse my ignorance; do Tag smart watches do anything above and beyond the normal ones eg Apple Watch? Or is it just better made?
The price isn't actually outrageous as long as people understand its not a watch for life, at best 3 years, it's tech. People spend that on a phone contract over the course of two years and then upgrade, kind of the same thing.

I Have the original connected , had it since last year.
i like it but the android wear 2.0 compatibility with IOS will make or break now tags future with the connected.
i have put up with the limited connectivity via IOS due to loving the look of the watch, but it supposedly very much rectified in the new version of android wear which should make it even better.
i am not sold on the modular idea, reminds me of swatch watches when i was young.

Smart watches are like 3d TV's, it's a fad.
I'm not sure that is the case - I never used to wear watches, but I wear my Tag everyday - they do have a lot of uses that until you try one for a while, you don't realize how handy they are for simple stuff (in the gym they are a godsend for changing music). Brother D said:

It's a big bugger and does everything it says on the tin!
I wear it during the week for work, but the mechanical watches still come out at the weekend and the odd week day.
I took my son swimming with mine on last week and didn't have any issues, but its only water resistant to 5atm so no diving!

I still haven't pulled the trigger - I can't get the niggle out of my head that I just don't need one.
Then the double pronged attack of: It actually worked out more expensive in the UK when I was looking anyway - and - the "simple jobs" on the TT costing double what I had anticipated (it took them 9 hours to replace the exhaust manifold gasket..) mean I've sort of lost interest in it.
Still, better to lose interest now than in $16000hk time..
