Advice needed, having now had a cerbie sp6 (blew up every 5 mins) so got a 4.5L, then wanted a soft top again so bought a 4.0L chimaera and now bought what I thought was the ultimate a 5.0L chimaera's one of the very last, I am bored !!!!!(may turbo it if I can't find anything else)
So need a bit of advice or at least peoples opinions, I don't want a another cerbie or a tamora or a tuscan just not my cup of tea, anything sp 6 just smacks of my old cerbie which cost £24,000 on servicing and problems in the first year (paid for by the leasing company) so thats out, now its my money !!!
Driven a Ferrari 348 and it was so dull and so slow after the 500 but don't want a LHD so 355 out, I think (just about in budget) really want RHD.
Every porsche seemed very slow as well inc 993 turbo so please please some one come up with something I haven't thought of, must be soft top and is only as second / third car so don't need practicality yet !!! answers on a post card !!!! or on this thread thanks in advance

See my thread on the "Readers Cars" - I had a similar shopping list....

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=16550&f=47&h=0

I would strongly recommend you try an M12. Waiting list is a pain, but if you look hard enough (and ask enough dealers) you can find them quicker.

Having driven most things (I'm a corporate driving day junkie - particularly JP days @ Bedford) I've driven a lot of fast cars, and have test driven quite a few more exotica.

Whilst the Ferrari's have a certain catchet - the M12 has the most sublime handling you can find. Finding the 60,70,80,90% near to the limit is soooo easy in them it's scary!

But the best bit (and maybe you won't like it) was the noise as the wastegate dumps the charge on lift of - I could play with that noise day in day out.

I can't find any MP3's on the net of Nobles, and the only decent video I can find has a "dance beat" all over it (very arty - but not very useful for listening to the noise).

£50k - that'll do nicely sir!

easy...50k (joust...he said soft top!!)

AMG SL60 - 6L 380bhp version of 500SL

996 Carrera Cab - May feel a bit too smooth but bear with it

Aston DB7 Cab - servicing costs will be high

Maser 4200 Spyder - imports at tradesales.co.uk £55K

or buy a RUF Boxster for 50k, 360bhp boxster fun!!

Sorry - just saw you said it "must be a soft top" - heck - do what I did, get an X5 (shopping), M12 (brmmm brmmmm), Elise (sun tan) and Ur-Quattro (classic for those lazy sundays).....

Total bill - shade over £125k - less than a decent flat nowdays, well worth the investment!

time for a new hobby before you kill yourself.

You'll find plenty of alternatives here. Few pilots of fast jets bother with fast cars, too.

Thanks for the erly replies, had half an SL60 in a former life (don't ask) and just a bit to old for me, and I am sorry to say the Boxter and 996 left me cold, now the DB7 volante that was on my list, never had and Aston or driven one for that matter and even the space for little feet longer term, that may be a poss.
M12 looks and sounds great if they made a soft top I may be interested but not a hard top. Thought of an ultima as well but not my cup of tea really to spartan and 996 too G.T. having said all this am going to buy an elise to replace the everyday BMW motorsport, mid winter just for a bit of fun, figure buy in mid winter have a bit of fun and sell in summer and hopefully don't lose to much if anything.
Db7 best bet so far and the current mrs R6CKT quite fancies it as well !!!!!

Hmmm, you aren't really going to beat the pace of the tiv for a convertible at that money. Especially if you don't consider Ultima Can-Am a possibility.

How about going s/h and tracking down one of the last few Marcos Mantis, perhaps the supercharged version?

Maf, quite happy to go second hand in fact don't really want anything new, as I would have liked someone else to have lost the first bit of the depreciation !!!!Cheeky I know but true
The mantis looks interesting and I know their is a supercharged hard top for sale via a link on here cant remember the site but it did look interesting I thik it was about mid thirtys from memory definatley one to think about and have a look at.
I know its going to be hard to beat the performance of the chimaera for £50K, have even thought about buying a griff 500 and putting in the cerbie 4.5 RR engine in to kind of make the ultimate, and may still consider that an option !!!!

Caterham R500?

Something quite different to your previous cars: incredible acceleration, sublime handling but you won't get the top speed you may be looking for.

Oh, and you'll have some change for a beer or two.

If you want a soft top that's got bags of poke, great handling, street prescence and is altogether something a little different, try the Morgan Aero 8 - if you can find one.

Oh, and I wish I had your problem, by the way!

If you can wait a couple of years the Zertec modular car that can be a soft top, coupe, shooting brake (estate), or windscreenless track car in the same vehicle. Presently at the 1/8th scale model stage. Standard 300bhp with 100,000 miles between services.

There is one car for sale on pistonheads in the classifieds, that will be the match for any TVR, Porsche, Ferrari, or anything else for that matter.

Look under the Porsche section under 'one of the fastsest'. It is a Ruf BTR Yellowbird replica, and if I had the money, it would be on my drive. In case the Tuscan boys think they stand a chance against it, the figures are 0-60 in the mid threes, and a top speed of 211 mph. All with well set up suspension and fiersome brakes.

Mind you, you have to like your fast Beetles to appreciate it

You will be your bank manager's best friend if you buy a twin turbo Griff

And the bodyshop will probably send you a Christmas Card in anticipation of it swapping ends, too.

Looks like you like TVRs so how about a road going Tuscan Challenge race car - think I've seen one for sale on here recently. Edit: Have a look in the Classifieds, one there for £23.5k so loads of change, doubt you'd be bored in that :Edit. Also must second (third) the Ultima suggestion.

Right, thanks for all the replies so far my at the moment there are a few options I can see, as follows:

1. DB7 Volante quite like the idea but have never driven one totaly different to the chimaera I would imagine.

2.Tuscan challenge car I have seriously thought about this before but have never found a decent enough one with a super quick engine.

3. Griff Twin turbo sounds great I presume this is the old courtney turbo's car as I only know of one the only thing taht puts me of is the dealers who can't even be bothered to return my calls, typical TVR dealers.

4. Zertec sounds interesting just need more details.

5. Ruf CTR Yellowbird its LHD and I really don't want LHD.

6. Rs 500 no space for bags for weekend trips to europe etc etc and no where to lock anything.

7. Morgan drove one a couple of weeks ago felt very like any BMW I had ever had before.

8.Ultima sorry to say just don't want some thing that gives the image of being a kit car maybee I am a bit too snobby.

9. 996 just fely very very G.T. ish now if it was my only car it may be a different story.

10. Boxter A) I am not female and B) I am not a hairdreser !!!!

11.Maser conv a maybee.

and finally the only other option I can think of which is what I may very well do is save save save keep the chimaera for a bit and then buy a RHD 355 GTS, have never driven or been in one for the simple reason that if I did I would probably have to have one and I don't want a loan !!!!
And Mrs R6CKT wants a new house (never mind the kitchen) as well if I can afford to buy myself a 355, so she keeps reminding me !!!
