BMW Inspection
Discussion
PIck your dealer VERY carefully. I had an inspection done on a car and:-
1) they missed an obvious autbox fault
2) said some dash switches needed replacing as the symbols had worn off. They don't wear off - they're moulded into the switch, being the backlit bits. The switches were, in fact, grimy.
3) questioned a sticky brake caliper. In actual fact, the dust seal wasn't fitted properly. This, they did not disclose.
4) didn't notice the worn track rod end
5) didn't notice the missing exhaust hanger
6) and a bunch of other things that weren't faults after all.
etc.
All in all, very poor overall. Looked like they were setting themselves up for a load of profitable work if I'd said "Yeah, fix it all please".

Been and seen the car today, stunning motor... everything I want, only thing bothering me is theres some gaps in the service history 5 stamps all together missing, its advertised as FBMWSH, he says he never knew it was missing, seems very genuine, I asked about the vanos on the phone before I went to see it, he never knew what it was, and I still dont either as nobody on here seems to know either??? just keep saying make sure its been done or is covered under warranty??? front seats are very slightly worn but not torn or ripped, could be re trimmed easily P reg, 93,000 miles,Estoril blue, M3 Evo, rest of the car is immaculate, wheels are spotless, hard top included £13,300 what do you think?
Cheers
Ian

W A L K A W A Y !!
13.3K seems well steep to me for a 93K car with dodgy service history. There are loads of M3 Cabs for sale on Autotrader, and I reckon it's still a buyers market.
I know convertibles fetch a bit more, esp. at this time of year, but I paid 12.9K a few months ago for a completely genuine 98/S coupe with HALF that mileage.

I paid £150 for an inspection with a BMW dealer. They were brilliant apart from they handed a copy of the report to the owner before I got mine. Just request them not to do that!
I paid £13,500 last June for a '96 M3 Evo 'vert with 50,000 on the clock and FBMWSH.
They are asking too much. As said it's a buyers market and they will struggle at that price. BMW head office can check on the history for you and if it was done then the service book can be sent away to be stamped. Worth a call.

All my stamps are where they should be The VANOS has been done, 63k miles, chipped, sports springs and everso slightly lowered suspension, the leather is immaculate as it has been professionally cleaned and treated in the last 6 months. BUT it is black not Estoril which, if memory serves, what you were after.
