Outstanding finance on a car different to the one advertised
Discussion
Hello all,
I was looking to buy a VW Touareg via Autotrader but when I ran the Experian vehicle check on the one I was interested in it has flagged an error on the report which says that there is a finance agreement recorded on the vehicle file. This finance is recorded against a Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TDI S-line ultra and not against the VW Touareg which I was looking to buy. As I have no experience of finance does this sound viable and am I better walking straight away? It is a private seller so any outstanding finance is a no go area from my limited understanding.
I was due to view the car tomorrow but my gut feeling is to take a rain check on it.
Thanks in advance for any input or clarifiaction.

Is/was there a private plate on the Touareg? It is common that finance agreements recorded against a private Reg show up on vehicles that the plate is subsequently transferred to so I wouldn't panic just yet. What you do is ring the finance company showing on the check and check they have no financial interest in the car you are looking to buy.
