My '94 C2 has what appear to be little black washer jets in front of each headlamp (but no wiper).

I've never been able to figure out if these things actually work, and if so, how to operate them.

Does anyone know if they do actually wory??

Apologies in advance if the answer is glaringly obvious to the blind.

They operate automatically AFAIK, when you use the windscreen washer nozzles on the column stalk.

Or at least they should do. Maybe get a friend to see if they work when you operate the wiper jets.

Thanks Dom.

But another daft question: if there's no wiper, is spraying some water on the light going to make and real difference?

Nah, they don't automatically work when the lights are on (like many other washers of this type) , unless mine and the other one I know are broken too, but I'm not sure how they do work.

The water will be at a very high pressure so shouldn't really need the wipers.

Yes they do work. I have an updated version of the system on my Boxster S - optional I might add! The jets should pump at very high pressure and blast and ice/mud etc off the headlight lens. Mine operate ONLY when the headlights are on and require me to push the wiper stalk away from me....to just blast the headlights...when washing the windscreen they go off for a bit as well.

Get a mate to watch whilst you try pushing away/pulling towards you. (With the headlights ON!)

Aha, there, I knew looking in the owner's manual would pay dividends. But my headlamp washers were removed from my Porsche at birth, so I was only going from what I remember of a similar system on my Lotus Carlton. I can remember seeing a mist of spray at night with the lights on when I did something with the wiper stalk.

Have you got Litronics on your S then, Don ? Hmm, you never told me that before.

Yep. Mine is quite high spec, Greg. I got 'em because I like the clear indicator lenses and the high-pressure wash system. The fact that the lights do a little electronic balance thing is quite fun - but hardly essential!

I suspect fewer people will order them on their new Boxsters as I believe that the aesthetic clear front lenses are standard anyway. I have actually ordered the Litronic system on my new one as I like the "free" hugh pressure wash etc etc. And I have much more money than sense of course....

Hey, shocker!!

If the headlights are on and you push the washer stalk away they work - and work well they do, wash the windscreen too they're so powerful.

Dave
ps: As you can guess I had fun all the way home last night playing, funny how these small things please...... Well, that's what I keep telling Mrs Scottster anyway
