New jobs - what would you go for?

Ok, seriously bored at work and need some stimulation. Got a call from a recruitment agent who lined me up with an interview. Seem to have got the job - which is a nice boost to the ego, but all along I have said that I am not desperate to leave, so can still turn it down (and the company who interviewed me know this too!). Not sure what to do, but will make my mind up soon...
But, got me thinking about what the great PH community would do (excluding those who have their own companies of course - you dont count!):
1) Easy or challenging - simple life or pushing you hard?
2) Loads of money or realistic pay - too much and a risk or realistic and fair?
3) Good working hours or flexible - 9-5 or flexi?
4) Local or commute - walk to work or a commute?
5) Desk based or out and about?
6) Back office or customer facing?
Anyway, what you think?

Too bloody right - would love to be self employed (wife is!), but where to start and what to do? Needs to be profitable enough to replace my salary but where to start - thats my problem....
...and would dearly love to have golden handcuffs. Never worked at a place where they have either been worth more than a packet of Walkers (I kid you not!) or had any sort of realistic timescale (like 15 years vesting period!). Even the bonus scheme where I am at the moment is based on how much ass-kissing you can do to the management.... which isnt my thing, to the detriment of my bank balance.
and yes, I hate IT too...

What a coincidence! I'm in IT too and feel the same way. Although I've always been too opinionated to be involved in any kind of ass kissing. Name dropping gets no-one anywhere with me either.
Just be glad you HAVE a bonus scheme!
Job satisfaction in IT has to be the lowest of any sector, its just daily misery. But then I do wonder if thats just universal with working for someone else.
Funnily enough 'er indoors is self employed too and it appears to be taking off (14 months in) so hopefully retirement is around the corner!

(Actually thats not fair I did get 3%, Directorate got 100% but thats because of all the golf they play...)

I'd go with that. At least my job is varied and I'm not stuck at my desk all day long. There's no-one on my back either so that's a major plus.
I just get fed up with users and whinging!
Could be worse though - I could be a geek too!

You want to try accounting for IT that is really the pits!
I agree that it is probably more that it is working for someone else.
(The original owners who set the company up were great to work for and very generous with money and time, but they sold and now we are part of a bigger group and the barstewards have taken all our money to prop up the rest of the company and left us with nothing!)
I will go back to work now I have had a moan!
Thanks for allowing me to let of steam and general reading of PH each day is my reward for doing some work.

Due to circumstances (long story) I ended up in IT… but some days I enjoy it… although I have realised that I am clearly a "work to live" person in my current job…
REALLY need a change of scenery… golden hand-cuffs aren't really there any more… would love to go self-employed as I reckon it's a real challenge… might be interesting to fill my day with a job, rather than PH…
Hmm…. Time to go contracting…?

Is that 100% of their salary Salary
Yep.
100% bonus and 15% pay increase.
The rest of the company got 3% and 3%
This is because our bonus is linked to earnings per share which we cant directly affect.
This was brought in just before the dot com crash.
I do feel so valued...

I often wonder if I should have stayed penniless and happy working in Events. At least you got to rag cars around tracks on someone elses budget...
Contracting is better than being a permanoid but I found, especially when times were good, that you couldnt seperate yourself from your hourly.
You'd be sat on the beach thinking 'I've been here for 4 hours, thats quite a lot of money...'

I don't mind working hard.. but I expect to get the appropriate reward... not convinced I'm getting that any more...

Not all IT has to be that bad. I work for SAP who are regarded as one of the best companies to work for of all industries.
Would still rather be doing race car aerodynamics or something though.
Personally speaking and being in the same area after a few implementations its starting to get a little tedious...
