Need somd advice.

My 4 week old 997.2 that I bought at OPC was making a lot of rattling noise and also the ride was poor, had to fight to keep it in a straight line and it frankly wasn't much fun.

OPC have taken it back in and found:
- wheel weights have fallen off both from wheels - I can't understand how
- tyres have worn c1mm from when car was delivered - excessive
- uneven wear from outside to inside
- OPC telling me tyres have started to crack - surely the tyres they had on the car weren't fit for purpose/of satisfactory quality then

The car has done 400 miles since delivery so not like it's been used excessively. The noise and handling have actually meant it's been very unusable.

What would you guys suggest?

Having found all that what has the OPC suggested as a course of action ? How old are the tyres ? I think they're supposed to be changed at 6 years to remain compliant with Porsche warranty.

No they sent me a lovely video of the issue and I believe they are hinting I purchase 2 new tyres, because he uses the word "perished" in the video.

What make are the tyres? I had cracked Pirellis and they paid for replacements direct with me.

Have you got a copy of the check sheet from the 111 point check?

It lists inside, center and outside wear on all tyres. I'd compare those readings to their current readings 400 miles on. Also have a look at checks on the test drive referring to straight ahead and handling.

Did you check the tyre dates? Did the car feel OK on your test drive? When did it become unstable?

Some of the guys on here should be able to advise if we have a bit more info.

The OPC needs to stump up for four new tyres.

The car was not fit for purpose, they really don't have a leg to stand on.

Start quoting the sale of goods act if need be, also read up about the Consumer Rights act 2015.

So they wore out in 400 miles and the rubber perished in 4 weeks?

No reputable OPC could possibly get away with that - surely yikes

We are not talking about a railway arch spiv - or are we?????

Its not even April 1st yet!

When Reading OPC did my 111 point check prior to my purchase they missed the stone chipped wheels all round and gave the wheels a double tick on the check sheet.

Because of this, they subsequently refunded the 111 check cost (which I'd paid for as it was a private purchase) and added some more toward my refurb.

I had to go through PGB to get this sorted, and with some fobbing off to begin with.

My experience shows PGB will pay for issues they miss. Yours should be easier as you purchased via an OPC and not privately.

Apart from the tyres, there seems to be another issue that caused the wear, which needs sorting. Either geo is out - fullstop, or there is some worn suspension component, such as perhaps front coffin arm bushes or steering balljoints, that are gone and as a result of which geo is out and caused the wear and undrivability. From what you describe option 2 seems more likely.

Supplying dealer needs to sort out the tyres. Uneven wear at the rear is common. Geometry is the usual suggestion.

I've put the before and after tyre stats. They types are 2014 dated, so less than 3 years old but the chap on the video repeatedly says deteriorated, cracked and perished for both front tyres.

Based on MOT mileage and not knowing the tyre replacement dates, I can only estimate the tyres have covered a max 15k-20k, but it could be much less.

Appreciate your thoughts but seems some excessive wear on these in a few hundred miles.

I wouldn't take much notice of the measurements.

Why so? Front rear wear is excessive... Though miraculously some of the tread has grown!!!

Pirelli N2, sounds is common then. Though mine are only 2014 dated.

Tyres are 2014, car felt OK on the 20 min test drive but brain was taking in a lot of info then so can't be sure. The noise has become more and more noticeable the more I drive it. The handling issue kicked in slowly, can't think of any major trigger. Certainly haven't hit any pot holes or similar except for the minor imperfections in roads in suburban London

clearly the measurements are crap if some are now bigger than before!

Just tell them to put two effing tyres on (at their cost) and look lively about it!

On the whole some are significantly lower. I've emailed re new tyres so let's see tomorrow. Strange they have cracked so soon though.

Really? What does on the whole some are significantly lower mean? It's either one or the other surely?

In my book all you are seeing is crap measuring. The fact that some got bigger shows that they can't measure down to 1/10th mm, so the apparent changes are meaningless. As you'd expect with 400 miles use. As 3 of the 4 increases in size are in the centre, one can guess that the tyres are inflated differently. So the measurements show nothing.

Up to you, but the measurements are meaningless and the tyres are cracked on a high performance expensive car. Hmmm, I think I'd be giving them no option!

Up to you though! Good luck biggrin

Have you seen the actual cracks? Well, if Pirelli - I had one tyre split too.

Re the wear and the nervousness - assuming the suspension is fine - you need to have it properly aligned (geo setup).

Otherwise any new tyres at the front will wear out rapidly and unevenly too.

Yes the measurements show wear generally but it's a max of 0.8 which you need to bear in mind that their measuring has a +/- of at least 0.2 as that is the amount that one measurement has "grown" by. Considering that the measurer may have had an interest in displaying the wear... I'd be inclined to work on a negative tolerance figure... i.e. 0.8mm - 0.2...
