Has anyone else experienced rust on a Maser 3200? Mine was less than 3 years old and already experiencing alarming corrosion around the boot lid edges.

Good grief, I hope that was a one-off. Either a fault during manufacture or a dodgy accident repair.

I assume it was covered under warranty?

It was due to be looked at under warranty - the dealer had already 'had a go' at it but it started 'sprouting' elsewhere. Worryingly there had been no accident damage. I think someone else on here has also stated they had had a problem with the iron worm!

my 3200 started to rust on the boot also. Firstly where the edge touched the rubber and also next to the number plate. I dont think mune was ever in an accident (obviously i was promised it never had been by the selling maser dealer!)

wouldnt surprise me if they left body panels out in the open at the factory. They used to in the biturbo era. One would hope things had changed!

Andy - that's exactly where mine went first! Then it started at the corner adjacent to the bumper. Obviously one to watch!

Rust/paintwork & major mechanical repairs have to be authorised by Maserati in Italy.
With paintwork they like to authorise "local" or "Smart" repairs to save money.
Two tiny corrosion spots on my 4200 had a "smart " repair and after 3 months you can see where they were done. Try and insist on a proper paintwork repair!

Being done a third time soon!

A 'local' repair is what was done and I was not happy at all with the end result hence they were going to do it again when in for service. Between times I found the other area which led me to belive the corrosion must be in the steel and a bare metal respray was in order.

Anyway that's someone elses problem now!
