My mechanic has 2002 Porsche 911 carrera and I'm interested in buying it.

The car has done about 90k miles but will have a brand new 0 mile Porsche engine from Germany put it in. Will this increase the value of the car? Thanks

Is it the correct engine for the model?

Yes, that's what I've been told

So, 996 engine. Well, the regular 996 is not a limited edition model and if the engine really is the correct one I suspect it would improve the value. Typically factory replacement engines are pretty expensive so I would be inclined to verify this very carefully.

Okay thanks, and if it's not the correct engine for the model?

No idea what British regulations are on the wrong engine, but there are not all simple mix and match; I believe the proper engine is a 3.6 litre flat 6 and if I recall the type is M96. This is not something to be taken on trust. You can go to the Rennlist site and go to the 996 section where there is a lot more expertise than I have.

Yeah I'd definitely have to make sure it's the correct one. He's been my mechanic for years and said it's the correct engine ordered from Germany

Depends upon the engine.

If it was a magnesium cased 2.7 RS metzger, the engine would be worth more than the car.

However a brand new crate engine from Porsche is very expensive and as its so easy to get a rebuild from a specialist that would fix the IMS weakness that I would be suprised that anyone would fit a new engine from Porsche privately.

It maybe a later m96 but that would be a bonus as the 2002 cars were at risk, so I would take that as a bonus, and if it's an m97, some would call it a dog, but I think it would at least hold the value on a 2002 996 if not actually enhance it (though I'm not sure how easy it would be to fit)

Problem would be if I was buying, where did the engine come from and where is the proof.
