Superchips boosts the 1-Series
BMW hatches get more power and torque
Tuning expert Superchips reckons it can boost the power of your BMW 120d, delivering a maximum power gain of 33bhp and boosting torque by 52lb-ft.
The power and torque gains kick in from around 1,800 rpm, with the greatest power increase of 33bhp achieved at 3,727 rpm and the biggest torque boost of 71 Nm at 2,676 rpm. According to the company, the improvements make the engine far more responsive and greatly improve overall ‘driveability’.
Superchips Managing Director Ian Sandford said, "BMW describe their product as The Ultimate Driving Machine, but like all manufacturers they impose limits on engine performance to allow for the worst grade of fuel being used or the car being allowed to run for many miles without a service. We remove those barriers by re-programming the engine’s electronic control unit, or ECU. It’s a quick and easy operation, though the research and development that lies behind the modification is amazingly complex."
Conversions are carried out at Superchips’ 85 dealers nationwide and at the company’s Buckingham headquarters. In some parts of the country, they can also be done at a customer’s home or place of work, courtesy of one of the network’s mobile units. If required, Superchips can also arrange favourable insurance via specialist brokers.
The conversion for the 1 Series 2-litre diesel model costs £511.13 including VAT and, said Superchips, has no adverse effect on fuel economy.
