What car? 70 mile commute but diesel is boring me...
Discussion
This is going to be fun...
Bought a diesel because of the length of my commute (Volvo C30 R Design 2.0D) and now, it's boring the hell out of me!
Thinking of something around £3/4k that will still return ok MPG, i'm currently returning 47mpg as per trip computer. First thought was Swift Sport, I have had one before so wanting to hear any other suggestions? The commute is mostly A road's and rarely ever get to hit 60.
Any ideas appreciated!

Stick with what you have - it's not the car that's boring, it's the kind of commute you have.
I agree with that, 70% of the feeling is probably the commute, but the other 30% may be the car. I'm 22 so wouldn't mind having something a bit more 'hard edged' - The roads I drive on could definitely be a lot more fun with something sportier.Yeah, but then you'll want something more refined and with better ride quality after a while, plus it will be frustrating having something that should be enjoyable to drive but being caught up in traffic.
If you have a long crappy commute just pick the best car for chewing through it with the minimum hassle and cost.
Been there, done that

Fair enough, cheers both! Thread closed If you have a long crappy commute just pick the best car for chewing through it with the minimum hassle and cost.

king hell, your commute must take an age if it's 70 miles long but not fast enough to hit 60mph. Is that just one way, or do you do 35 miles there and the same back?
Either way, I'd look at comfort and economy for those sorts of miles. You'll always want what you don't have. When I had an Audi A8 I dreamed of getting a small, flickable hot hatch. I replaced it with a Peugeot 106 Rallye and missed the comfort of the A8!

Reopen the thread I have found the car for your commute Great chassis so you can enjoy the corners & still diesel powered so you'll get the good economy (well maybe it'll depend on how much fun you decide to have) you're getting now.
Renault Sport Megane DCI these are rare cars but tick a lot of your boxes:
2008 dci RS 175bhp 50k R26 Chassis (just over budget)

The OP doesn't want the Volvo & was considering a Swift so I was guessing soft touch dashes etc were lower on his list than a decent chassis.
Yeah the Volvo is great and all but when you get the odd occasion to have a blast either on the way to work or on a weekend, its pretty lifeless, because we all know its not designed for that. Would have even said EP3 but I think 400+ miles a week in one would be overkill.Loyly said:

35 miles each way, made it sound worse than it is! Although it's still pretty bad, 1 hour 45 with the snow here... Wasn't even that bad, just people doing the standard "AH SNOW" and sitting at 20mph. I am a contractor, so hopefully I can get something closer next time around.
